Lound Knocking From Centre

I have searched the forums and whilst I see various knocking noises I have not see one that relates to this. We have owned our MR2 for a couple of weeks. It is almost three years old with less than 10,000m  s:D :D s:D  
Today I was out in it and heard a loud knockig noise from the centre glovebox area (the one on the top of the dash). It was knockimg and at time squeaking. I could see nothing loose or in the area that would cause this. At times its as if it was towards the speedo area?
Any thoughts?
