Pls help!
Driving to work today ont eh Mway the car kinda bumped and something has gone in the gearbox.  s:scared: :scared: s:scared:
Its making a hell of a whining noise when driving along and when i came to park it reverse gear wouldn't engage, eventually when i got reverse to engage the car bunny hopped backwards.   s:( :( s:(

none of this can be good - and advise is badly needed;- do i go for a new gearbox or get this one repaired? (i have 85k on the clock -i guess i also have the issue that my car is a Jspec)

if i go for a new/salavage gearbox any suggestions for sourcing?

thx

Need some definitive help to confirm it though (and sorry, I can't). Its a job for a garage me thinks, if nobody can say for definite.

I am sure you will agree it is a bit stupid rushing to source a gearbox, if it's only a linkage problem, for example.

mmmm had another look at this, engine starts perfectly - but has an occasional grating noise at idle

it was possible to get the car into gear but as soon as i released the clutch and started to move there is considerable resistance and then a loud clicking/grinding noise the car moves a little then resistance  s:shock:  s:shock:

ok then switched off the engine and put gear into neutral but again resistance (basically couldnt move it further than a few cm's) and click noise

obviously i am in need of professional help (me as well as the 2   s:D :D s:D  )but wanted opinions/speculation as to what i have broken?  s:?: :?: s:?:

What if you keep the clutch pressed down? Can you move the car then? If you can, it probably isn't the gearbox. It could be a broken differential, or an extremely strange problem with one of the driveshafts...

nope with clutch down i cant move the car at all, so  guess that means it is the gearbox

when i have previously had issues with gearboxes it was on old cars (morris minors +relint scimitars) and it was only 1 gear that was broken and the rest were ok, so this is all new territory to me

I have a J-Spec gearbox with extremely low miles if you do want one
