Searched and come up with nothing   s:oops:  s:oops:

Anyone any ideas as to why my ?throttle/?accelerator/?cable glues itself shut every time I park up? It takes a bit of a boot on the accelerator to free it when I come to start the car again. Feels sort of sticky! but its fine once its free.....

I noticed this before the C2 install & cleaned the throttle plate/throttle stop & adjusted the cable etc but it didn't improve things. Is my cable knackered?

Anyone else had this?

Yes i've had this for ages. It is something i've never looked into, but it is as free as anything when driving but leave it for a while and it is solid. Takes a stamp on the throttle pedal before i start the car to free it. Got used to it now but i've always had the feeling it's not the cable but actually the pedal and where it pivots, maybe some WD40 will help.

I thought i was alone on this 1 but obviously not   s:D :D s:D

Let me know if you find out Ste, i suppose i best sort it before the car goes.

So anyone else have this? Surely not just 2 of us.

I had the same in my Mk1. It was the throttle plate, which was so tight that if you left it closed for some hours, it didn't want to open without some extra effort. That of course happened after I cleaned all the greasy stuff off of it  s:? :? s:?  I applied some teflon lubricant around it and it seems fine now. Might or might not be related to Mk3...

Anyway, take the throttle cable off or have a friend create some slack in it when you try the pedal. That should tell you if it's the pedal/cable or the plate.
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.

I had this and only got it sorted when it got so extreme that my throttle locked open while driving.

The actual cable inside the throttle cable became fraid and was catching on the plastic outer casing.  It cost my £95 for a new cable from Toyota.

CRIKEY  s:shock:  s:shock:  I'm gonna have to treat this as serious unless proven otherwise. Will have a good scout about today and report back later.....

Tem - you genius  s:wink:  s:wink:

Its the throttle plate jamming shut. Strange though, I'd have thought a good clean out would stop it glueing up, but now you mention it, its got much worse since a good squirt of carb cleaner  s:shock:  s:shock:

Teflon lubricant - where do I get that? Is it engine-safe and permanent?

Yeah, I thought the same  s:? :? s:?  I suppose there's something from the factory to keep it loose and a good cleaning removes it as well. Don't really know, just guessing here.

Over here it's available in every automotive/hardware store. I have no idea if it's the best choice for this, so you might wanna try what you have. It should be more or less permanent, I've used it to fix squeaky pedals, door hinges and whatevers and they seem to be fine for years  s8) 8) s8)

I wouldn't spray it in the engine, but I assume the amount that would get there after spraying the plate and letting it dry for a second or two is next to nothing  s8) 8) s8)
