Funny noise

Any ideas about an odd noise I've noticed recently? It's hard to describe - just sounds like the engine volume has increased. But it has some odd characteristics: it disappears when I depress the clutch and it increases in pitch with speed (ie not revs). It is also unrelated to heat - same volume at the beginning and end of a trip.

There is no noticeable change to performance.

I had a similar problem on my old car,it could be related to the clutch release/trust bearing?
