Hi All,

The engine management light has come on in my girlfriend's W reg Roadster in the last couple of days.

Does anyone know why this would have come on and what I can do to get rid of it?

Cheers for any help given!

Hi,

Go to your local Toyota garage, they will put a reader on it, they shouldn't really charge you for this as it's a quick plug in.

It could be something simple, but you should get it looked at soon, as it could be something serious as well - good luck.

Cheers

Is it only Toyota garages that can do the diognostic computer tests?

They want £41 just for the 1/2 hour test.  s:shock:  s:shock:

Some people on the site have readers, but it depends where you are.

I presume you are not under warranty ?

DO you have a good relationship with them ? It seems a little steep charging you for plugin it in and reading it....

have a word with one of the Tech's, see if he will do it on a sat morning for a couple of pints  :-) :-) :-)

Cheers

Cheers Darren.

We're near Gillingham in Kent.

I'm looking on Yell.com for anywhere nearby that have got Diagnostic Equipment.....  fingers crossed I'll find somewhere cheaper than that!

If anyone can give me some more opinions, that would be great!

Without the code there isn't really much anyone can say I'm afraid...it could be any number of things....

I suppose any decent garage should have a reader these days.

If you're not in a hurry, you can actually buy code readers for less than that. I have this one myself:

(for a quick fix, disconnect the battery to clear it and see if it comes back)
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.

Had it all booked in at Toyota, then I mentioned that it was a Jap Import and they said....  "Ooo, no we can't do them... we haven't got the software for it".   s:evil:  s:evil:

Looks like we're gonna have a bit of a problem on our hands...  I've got a couple more garages to ring, fingers crossed they will be able to do it.

Do you know if the readers on eBay will be able to do the imports?

Cheers for all your help.

Got it booked in to Riverdale Motor Co in East Peckham on Saturday.

They want £40 + VAT....  so the dealer was actually cheaper, but they didn't do Imports!

Fingers crossed it's nothing major!

One of her headlights has gone and someone told her that it might be that that is making the engine management light to come on....  do you think this is the case, cause it would be cheaper for me to fix it rather than spend £45 for someone else to tell me that it's that.

Cheers!

No probs  s;) ;) s;)

Lights don't trigger any OBDII codes, and I'm 99.9% certain there aren't any manufacturer specific codes on the Toyota for them either (admittedly I can't find the list to check, but I'm pretty sure on that one).

Some manufacturers do trigger CELs or warnings on bulb failure, though, just not on the '2  s:) :) s:)
