It feels like torque steer!!!

Hmmmm.....got a weird one here........

Just recently, my car has started to pull to the left under power. Admittedly, its under pretty hard acceleration, but it shouldn't do it. I can't put my finger on it, but when accelerating the steering feels like it wants to pull to the left, only gently though and then between gear changes, it goes back to pulling straight. Its disconcerting in that I don't realise I am trying to correct the pull and I end up pulling the steering slightly right between changes.

There is nothing wrong with the car as far as I know. I checked the tyre pressures only the other day and they were fine. There are no noises. The only thing I can think of is that a suspension strut mount at the front right DEFINATELY needs changing as its knocking a little, but it shouldn't have that effect on the steering should it?

I must point out that it doesn't do it in everyday town, slowish normal driving though. But where I live, there are some awkward junctions and you have no choice to accelerate hard to get out of them as no-one would ever let you out.

Does anyone have any ideas on this? I want to get all these things fixed if I can if I have to part-ex the car on the Elise I want to buy..........

i had this when i got mine - it turned out to be as simple as wrong tyre pressures. I assume you may have tried this already tho?

same here: the first sign of a flat tire even before it went visually flat. incredible how sensitive to tire pressure this car is... s:shock: :shock: s:shock:

Hmm.....Ok, will check the pressures again tomorrow then. I checked them no more than a week ago and they seemed Ok then. I hope I dont have a puncture. I really don't want to have to spend anything on it before she goes for the Elise..............

I had a very similar problem to the one you describe. My steering pulled to the left in just the same way but also, when the steering was on full lock (in either direction) I had a large knocking sound. It turned out to be something to do with the power steering. Luckily my car is still under warranty as it would have cost around £350 otherwise.

Found out what it is. I DO have a very slow puncture on my left rear. The car was squirming around even more Monday morning. Got to work and checked over the tyre, but it was visibly down. Pumped it up and hey presto, back to scooting around with the best of them. Only problem is, I have to blow the bloody thing up pretty much every time I drive it now!

Quik Fit here I come...................

P.S. Toyo don't make the T1-S anymore do they? And MyTyres don't supply them anymore either!?! I don't want to have to pay for a new set of tyres cos they don't make the tyre anymore. The ones I have on have hardly been used!

You should be able to get it repaired - heck, if there's nothing through the tread then a simple remove & re-fit might re-seal it to the rim..

And getting it repaired (given you are trading it in) will be much safer for the potential new owner than one odd tire..

Yeah, my thoughts too. I may as well try and get it repaired. Going to take it in on Sat (not going to have time before then).
