Took my MR2 for its 30,000 mile service yesterday and asked them to check the pre-cats. The service manager asked 'why, is there a problem with them?' I said no and told him the history of the potential problem and could he just check the state of them anyway for my peace of mind.
After 1/2 an hour I got a phone call saying 'Do I want them to perform a toyota oil consumption test?' This is where you take the car back after a thousand miles and they drain and measure the oil.
I said no to the girl who phoned me and asked her to write down verbatum what I said. 'Can you ask the technician to take out an O2 sensor in the manifold and look inside to check the condition of the pre-cats.'
No problem she said, I will pass the message on.
10 minutes later, I got a phone call from the service manager saying that they could not look at the pre-cats through the exhaust because of all the twists and turns in the exhaust pipe!!!! and they wouldnt be able to check the pre-cats for me!!
Anyway, told him not to bother, i would check them myself.
Is it me, or are they just muppetts at this garage? I dont believe for a second that they have never heard of the problem with the pre-cats. Are they just fobbing me off.  s:roll:  s:roll:

We all know that Toyota is such a high quality car that there wouldn't be a common problem and every failure is the first anyone has heard of. Right?  s:twisted:  s:twisted:
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.

I have found the solution. I am now taking my car to a Nissan Dealer, who are also Toyota and Mitsubishi dealers when it comes to servicing and repairs.
