DRIVER SIDE HEAD LAMP........... FULL OF CONDENSATION

what is the best or easiest way to fix this problem, any help appreciated, cheers.

go to Mr.T and get them to open it and fit a new seal kit, its a known problem

Just rang a few dealers, and they have all told me that there is no way of re-sealing the head lamps, i'll have to get a new one.

might have to pop it in the oven and do itmyself ? ?

Why do they sell a seal kit then !

They said nothing about that to me ! ! !

all they said was if you leave the lamps running for 10mins and the condensation dissapears leave them. if it doesn't then i'll have to get a new unit.

I think the seal kit Stu is referring to is the one mentioned on a service advisory for the rear light clusters which are field repairable by the dealers.

The headlights are classed as a non-field repairable due to them being glued together. This means they are only replaceable as a complete unit.

This is taken from memory of when I had my headlights replaced on one of my roadsters and is direct from the regional tech-manager in Bedfordshire. E&O.E.

i was told there was one for both ends by Abbey Toyota, mind you Mr.T does tell a lot of crap

Just rang up the one of the same dealers, and asked to speak to the parts department, and he promptly quoted £6 for the seal kit for a front lamp and about £20 labour to fit it.

I swear MrT is going down hill. I already have an  issue outstanding with this dealer and this is going to be added to my list of reasons why there dealership it incompetent.

Up here MrTs have all said that the fronts are not serviceable. Even if they're wrong, at least they're consistent   s:wink: :wink: s:wink:  

Two little tricks you can do for a temporary cure to delay the inevitable:

1) If its light condensation, place a mirror infront of the headlight to reflect back into the unit (dunno if this works but its what MrT in Macclesfield do - very technical!)

2) If its dripping wet, pop out your main and indicator bulbs and channel a warm air source (hairdryer) through the unit for half an hour. Its a bit of a faff but it does work.

I've been doing that for three years, and now I find out that its.....

I wonder how they disassemble, break the seal, clean the housing, replace the seal, cure it and re-fit all for £20 labour? If thats the deal its a no-brainer.

Bloke said they'd charge 1/2 hr labour.

cause I have a dispute with this particular dealership iv got in the habit of remembering names, i might call up the guy who told me they can't reseal it and ask him how come the parts department said he'd charge me £25 all in to get it done??

I'm sure he'll feel very cleaver then.

Its at least 2 hours work, the worst bit is cleaning out the gunge
The second time I did it, I just used a small beading of mastic over the original seal

Did anyone get this fixed by MrT and if so, how much was it in the end? I have the same problem (misted head light, for about a year) and RRG Salford Quays wanted to charge about 100 quid to fix it! I didn't get it done in the end but will no doubt be "reminded" at the impending MOT.

George - RRG at SQ are normally quite good - but at £100 it sounds like their policy is to replace the entire unit (no-one up here has heard of these seal kits, and I've never seen one).

Fiddly, I know, but I've been keeping the misting in check using my piddle-fix method 2 (see above)

I've asked my local Mr T about the seals. They are fitting them and adjusting my front bumper slightly when the car goes in for its 50k.

Literally quoted the part number from Peter Wright's post above (Part No Rh or LH 53182-17030) to the guy on the service desk - priced to about £7 and told him that others have had it done for about £20 labour. He said he can sort it for me at service, but didnt give an exact labour price. My local Mr T are excellent at doing little bits and bobs when the car is in for other stuff though, so shouldn't have thought it will be majorly expensive   s:wink: :wink: s:wink:

Its a very time consuming job, about 3 hours labour, if they know how to do it.
Do it yourself and use mastic for a better job.

Peter, I would, but i'm a technical numpty. I'm really, really bad at practical stuff, bit of a paper pusher really   s:oops: :oops: s:oops:   More likely to make things worse than improve them..lol

Did you do a thread/guide on what you did to yours? Would be interesting to read.

Same as this but you have to remove all the gunge thats why its best to use mastic over the gunge then there's no guarantee it will work also check the seals on your bulb holders first
