I believe you are correct, so rather than towing you would be towed!

Quote from: SurreyMR2 on May 13, 2026, 07:18Literally just bought a Celica item with a long lead as fitting a zero manifold so need longer lead. Found new old stock Denso item on eBay this week at great price.

Bravo!  ;)

I guess you are no different to other Members and seldom have need of the rear tow eyes.

Due to car accident 39 years ago I do not have full neck movement and so find parking aids very handy, plus my daily, my wife's & both my kids cars have them and so when reversing these days I tend to forget the MR2 doesn't have them  ::)  :))

I've been wondering how I could install a set but so they are very subtle. Yesterday I had an idea and I have installed mine. They are Steelmate sensors and you can either fit all 4 or 2 sensors. On the pre face lift there are towing eye covers each side and I mounted a sensor in each one. Cables are in a conduit similar to the grey used on main engine loom & run through the bumper crash beam. I extended the sensor wires using the now unused other sensor leads using solder and heat shrink & mounted ecu under plastic trim in cubby hole next to fuel sender.

Works a treat, not quite as sensitive as when all 4 sensors fitted but they work well & are virtually invisible.

Check for leaks at the manifold to cat joint.

Is it a proper type approved cat or a 200 cel 'sports cat'?

The post cat sensor will have been subjected to a bit of a hammering removing it from the old cat and these sensors are quite delicate, but I would check for leaks before spending the money.

The other two sensors should be fine.
