New Car - Problems....help for newbie

Hi All,

Just bought a 2nd hand MR2 last weekend (only 9 months old) but over the past week I've had a few problems develop. Not sure if this is "1st owner" worries or if I should take it to my dealer to get sorted asap. The problems are:

1) Squeaky clutch - annoying more than anything else
2) Condensation in the back lights
3) Interior door lock not unlocking. Trapped in car for 20 minutes yesterday (fun!!)
4) Seal (exterior) along drivers window loose near wing mirror.

Any advice on what I should do and ways of dealing with the dealer would be of great help. Just to note, I bought the car in Hull but live in Northampton so is the local mrT decent around here??

sorry, live with it, you can get the seals changed but it'll only work for a little bit before comeing back

get that fixed asap, in the event of a fire you wont have 20mins to open the door

again get it in for a new one, but to worn you the seals are about £150 each

Hello and welcome.

Personally, on a 9 month old car I think no niggle is too small to give the car back to MrT to sort. Make the b******s work for your warranty!!

Had to laugh at point no. 3 s:lol: :lol: s:lol: s:lol: :lol: s:lol: , had a mental image of you looking helpless in your car peeking out the windows...... s:wink: :wink: s:wink:

Not quite sure what you meant. s:? :? s:? Had you locked the doors from the inside using the central locking button on the right of the wheel and they then wouldn't unlock properly, or was it just that the doors wouldn't open after a journey?

It's a hydraulic clutch on the Roadster, so no cable to grease s:wink: :wink: s:wink:

There is however a pivot point that may be dry - IIRC it's a pig to get to - as the car is only 9 months old get the dealer to sort all of the problems under warranty.

just come off nights feeling thick!

as its only 9 months old, take it back and just tell them to sort it all!, i'm up to £22K of doing that, its your right to have them fix it on a GB bought car that new

just to clarify t's your right on ANY EU sourced car not just GB, Toyota are one of teh few companiies that have warranties for new vehicles applicable across teh EU. And for identical timescales, i.e 3 years across teh board.

they may say otherwise, but speak to Toyota GB if in doubt.

I am from Northampton.

I had my old Celica serviced by Sims, no problems at all, well cared for. Thanks to Toyota build quality, had nothing to mention to them at all, not a single niggle in 2 years.

Havent had the '2 serviced yet, but when I bought it from there, all was well.

I think some others have had "issues" with Sims, hopefully they will be along to comment.

In response to my 3rd point - I was using the lock buttons to the right of the steering wheel and they locked fine but they didn't fancy unlocking the car though. Not sure what was worse, not being able to get out or sitting outside blockbusters with 3 pikey kids looking at me (or the car) as I cooley tried to get the bl**dy door open whilst trying not to look very flustered. Eventually drove off once I realised things weren't going to improve and admitted defeat! s:cry: :cry: s:cry:

couldn't you use the lock on the door itself?

it is a direct cable operated lock/unlock

I've used Sims on a number of occasions, and had nothing but grief. I will NEVER take my '2 there again, they left mounting blots out of my Box when they did some work on it, plus they over price hugely compared to other dealers.
For example last service: Sim £295
Sturgess £180 (Incl Brake fluid change) (Plus the best service I have ever received)

P.S: Milton Keyens is meant to be quite good aswell.

IMO Stay Clear of Sims Northampton.

could of always dropped the roof and jumped over the door like they do in all the films... s8)

i take it the deadlocks must have kicked in? if thats the case then the only thing that would unlock the doors is the button on the key.

dont take this the wrong way, but perhaps you accidently pressed the lock button on your key a few times within the car and deadlocked yourself inside?

possible if the button on the key was pressed twice, but otherwise not possible normally, the deadlocks can not be activated in any other way other than the key being pressed twice. opening the door lock otherwise will manually unlock the door.

I have exactly the same problem but it appeared after 3 years & 25,000 miles. It's seriously annoying...

I have to admit Judas Priest help a lot but I am actually considering taking the car to Toyota. It's their labour costs that put me off...

I reckon they would charge a minimum of 5-6 hours as the engine needs to be dropped to access the clutch... Unless it's not the clutch per se but some part of the hydraulics.

not convinced thats true, they didn't drop mine, when the clutch and flywheel was installed, but i'll admit i dont know how they did it outside of that

Mine squeeked too @ 16K miles last autumn. I had a service at Mr Ts & they couldn't find anything (most probably they couldn't locate the clutch pedal), winter came - squeek went.

Roll on summer with the top down and the return of the squeeky clutch pedal!

This sounds very familar - me too!

Its something we've talked around quite a bit in the past and never really got to the root of the problem. I think Steve (Two's Company) had his fixed successfully but its late, I'm tired and I might be talking complete b@ll@x .... not for the 1st time s:wink: :wink: s:wink:
