I have  cloth seats and where the seat belt goes over the seat before reaching me, it has been cutting the material. I pointed this out to the mechanic the other week, and he has replaced them under warrant.

Excellent!

I have the same problem but reckoned that Toyota would refuse it as wear and tear.

Anyway else managed to get this done under warranty?

I have seatbelt pad thingies (TRD ones) which aren't to everyones tastes, but they stop this from happening.

Yeah I use harness pads as well but wear them over my collarbone plus have the seat in a very upright posture so still have the problem   s:? :? s:?

Find the pads comfortable if a bit boy racer like - at least they don't say MAX POWER- mine say Yokohama plus their logo

Driver Seat Cover replacement, mine developed a tiny hole on the seam... told toyota and they replaced the covers - saw the warranty claim, they had charged over £700 back to toyota for the seat cover and fitting.... cheeky monkeys eh!!!!

Just the seat backs or the seat bottoms as well? Mine have faded and all would need replacing.

It should have just been the driver back, but they ordered the bottom by mistake, fitted it......... I came back at the end of the day had a look and said, bloody hell they must all come with the seam undone as it dosen't look any different from when I left it !!!!!

One very embarresed aftersales person later..... Ah... I think we need to order you the top to go with the bottom we have just replaced !!!!!

Oh dear........... I did see the funny side, plus got a new base in the process......

Nice one chaps   s:lol:  s:lol:

Just trawling through the old posts about seat wear.

My 2002 Mr2 has red cloth and is mint apart from a bit of 'puckering' on the seat bolster (on the seat back, not the base). Its the bit that you slide across when you get in.. The material hasn't actually worn, just the red (which seems to be interwoven on the black) has 'puckered' / scagged.

Is this what you referred to as seatbelt wear? I assumed it was from the prev lady owner who had the seat very far forward and may have work a sharp belt or something that may cause the damage?

Anyone have any ideas as to how much a seat back would be? is this a common problem? It wouldn't normally bother me, its just that the rest of the car looks utterly brand new, this lets it down a bit.

The other alternative is to look for used leather trim.

Hi Chis,

The covers from Mr T arn't cheap.

If you are looking to change for less worn ones, consider your options.

1. Change to Leather - cost region of £400 - £600 (for new)

2. Get a replacement cover, but you will probably want to do both, due to sun face, especially on the red.

3. not cost option, live with it, or try maybe something like a remington fuzz away if you have excessive bobbling.

mine was actaully the seam where all them intersected, it went again this year, but as I'm on extended warranty, choose to use a little needle and thread and got rid of the issue.

You may want to talk to Adam GT 300 on the forum, he has a number of imports through and also buy's damaged vehicles from Japan, with low milage, you might just bag a good deal on replacement covers / seats.

good hunting.

Cheers

Thanks for that Darren.

I think I will just keep my eyes open and if something good value comes up I may upgrade. Its not 'wear' but a lifting of the red fibres (which are interwoven into the base black - i.e. some of the red fibres have broken) It just stood out because everything else looked brand new.

I was under the impression that Toyota dealers fitted the leather covers in the UK, so maybe had a stash of cloth 'knocking about'.
