I fitted this about 12 months ago, and IMO looks the d*gs.

However being an oldy usually listening to Radio 4 rather than the latest whatever compilation on CD, and TBH its reception is dire. Perfectly OK in towns, but get out into the countryside (or the dips on the A34), and it just disappears.

I've been looking for other aftermarket ones, but the screw seems to be a Toyota special (long and thin) and could never match it. I got so fed up a couple of weeks ago I bought the MrT option for £25   s:cry:  s:cry:  . Its about 2' long, thin (with a wire wound around it) and in black.

IMO it looks much better than the standard electric, its wind noise is less, but still there, and reception is marginally worse than the OEM, but significantly better than LT's.

I suppose at the end of the day its a good compromise. Not ideal, but there you go.

Just thought I would share my experiences.

Have you got a piccy and a part number Roger, my whip aerial is being a little sod at the moment and only going up and down when it feels like it.

Piccy I can do at weekend (together with the carbon sills), and part number at home. However you do have to replace the whole of the electric mast (which was needed for the LT conversion) to a fixed one. That cost about £35, so the whole deal is about £60....not cheap.

I did the same Roger.  I could only pick up radio 1 using LT's antenna and even then it went fuzzy half way through the journey to work

Digging this one up Roger......

.....so does the Toyota 2' fixed whip (at £25) screw into the LT fixed base?

Is the 2 footer from a particular vehicle? Or have a part #?

Having the same lack of reception issues.

I bought LT's antenna, but bought the mast and nut from MrT

I believe the "LT fixed base" is the Toyota non-electric offering but not having bought it from him I couldn't be 100% certain.

The whippy antenna is offered as an MR2 part  made to fit the MrT manual base. So if you bought the whole kit from LT, then I guess you only need the manual antenna from MrT.

I have the part number on my invoice at home, but according to page 1237 of this it is 66309-32011. A call to MrT should confirm this, mine is post 03, but I doubt that makes a difference.

Hope that helps Steve.

<edit> looking at LT's sale thread here he is quoting the MrT numbers for the nut and base, so I would be 100% certain the whippy mast from MrT will fit.

Cool, thanks for researching around Roger.

For info peeps, I have been travelling M25 J5 to J17 each day this past week with the LT short antenna and have had very intermittent Radio 1 signal between probably about J8 and J17. Reception was fine with the stock electric aerial.

Will report back on the fixed whippy!
