Swapping rear de mister connections....

Still a good few weeks off yet, but when I get around to removing the hard top again in March and putting the soft top back into use, I already know of a problem I will encounter.

Last year, I did exactly what the manual told me to do, yet the rear demister was not connected up properly!  I had to hold my hands up, admit temporary stupidity and head to Toyota for them to do it.  Sod's law, they did it through in the workshop and I never followed.  Doh!

Where did I go wrong?  I simply "unclipped" the connector that feeds into the wire casing on the hard top, and then clipped it back into the equivilent casing on the soft top.  Apparently, I had missed out something reasonably major!

There's two leads.

One that goes from the hardtop to the car, and one from the softop to the car as I recall.

With the hardtop on you should have the softop lead coming in, and just floating (or plugged into the dummy socket for it).  So unplug the hardtop lead at the hardtop end and then pull it back inside.

Then find the other end of the lead behind the seats and swap it for the other cable end that is there... that's the softtop lead.  The other end of which is permenantly attached to the softtop.

I think.  Maybe.  Perhaps (memory a bit foggy as it was a few months back now).

You have to disconnect the wire from the hard top, then disconnect the other end of THAT cable from the connector behind the luggage area sides (the removable panel), then connect the soft top cable to that.

Nudge  s;-) ;-) s;-)

Strange to think I was swapping the tops over in March last year.  With the way the weather is just now, it's hard to see that being the case this year.

When is everyone else hoping to ditch the hardtop back into the garage?

I realise this is an old topic I'm reviving, but I took my new (to me) 2001 MR2 out for a spin with the hard top off this weekend.  It was glorious.  However, I can't for the life of me figure out how to connect the demister in the soft top.  And the manual is no help at all since it seems to have been translated from Serbo-Croat into Japanese before being rendered into Engrish.

My hard top has an electrical connector coming from somewhere behind the seats.  I assumed that this electrical connector would have to be connected to the soft top somewhere.  The soft top, however, has a cable connected to the glass that goes into a hole in the fabric and disappears to I don't know where.  I rooted around under there and couldn't find anything.

Is there supposed to be another cable connector somewhere?  Or is the soft top already somehow plugged in?  Meteorological conditions didn't allow me to test it.

Any help much appreciated.
