Urm, my engine management light came on yesterday.

All that has been done to the car is it has been washed and the rear light was taken out to be fixed.

Is there a fault code list I can get hold of?

Thanks

Have a look here  m http://mr2roc.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=16017 m  to see who near you owns a reader, then we can get the code and give you the diagnosis, first of all dont panic!

I disconnected the battery, but only for about 30seconds and this turned the light off for a while, but then it came back on again.

The engine is running as it normally would, and there's no lack of fluids.

Could it just be a bit of dirt on a sensor? And the fault keeps coming back because it hasn't actually been wiped? Or if it hadn't been wiped would the light be evident as soon as you have reconnected the battery?

without the code you and us are just guessing.

Get it read, there are 3 of us with readers in Oxford, maybe some nearer.

the code came up with xxxx, which was helpful. Its going to the garage tomorrow to be checked out. The mechanic said it sounded like it was missing slightly and that maybe it was the cat that is breaking up......

im still thinking it is an import....

tell us more about your motor, and we should be able to narrow it down.

Well theres no obvious signs of it being an import. How else could i tell? I know imports fairly well as i have 2 of them. It isnt an import on the log book, has uk number plate spaces and doesnt have japanese writing everywhere

Easy tell-tales to know if it is Jap import, provided things haven't been changed, would be:
- the speedo (if it goes to 180MPH!)
- the clips for a safety flare in the left hand corner of the passenger footwell
- the lack of a post-cat O2 sensor
- indicator stalk on the RHS (ie the correct side!!  s:wink:  s:wink:  )
- no springy flap inside the filler nozzle
- clutch depress required to start the car
- rear foglight and switch added aftermarket
- etc etc etc

Of course, a MrT check on the reg and VIN plate will also clarify .... actually, thats probably the easiest and quickest way .... phone their parts department   s:lol:  s:lol:

My car has never showed up on their system yet I know it's not an import - mind you they have never done a VIN check!!

Hopefully it will be nothing?! I'd have a couple of quid on the old PO141!

Green cars have different erro codes than other colours?
Sounds almost too funny to be wrong!  s:lol:  s:lol:

They might just not have had the plug in properly.
See what the next reading is before panicking.
