Okay whilst my car is in the garage i'm contemplating more interior mods.  On high priority is a colour coded steering wheel.  I'm quite adverse to spraying my current one, so I looked at some Isotta leather covers..the quality is very good as a friend had one on a beetle, and looked as though it came with the car. They are covers which you effectively stitch onto the current wheel..they are vinyl backed so they don't slip, and fit tight.

Anyways they come in a number of colours..here's the weblink..

m http://www.isotta.com/main.htm m  (then click on 'buy your steering wheel cover' and then...examples.

They make one for the Yaris which I thought may be okay (Yaris T Sport same wheel).  However the cover is currently made for the normal Yaris wheel.

However after speaking to Isotta, they are willing to make up a new one, specifically for the MR2 in whatever colour.  Also I asked them about a group buy and they are willing to do them on a bulk order of 30 (i know that may be a bit optimistic) for £34 each, the usual retail is £50. A 30% saving.. As I said the quality is excellent and they smell like a roller's hide does.

So would anyone be interested? I appreciate it might look a bt daft in an otherwise black interior, but I think it would look great in a red and black one a la monsieur Perry's

Cheers,

Mike

I would be interested in something similar to the TRD steering wheel look.  s8) 8) s8)

If you're going for full red, then I'm not interested...
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.

I was looking at the half and half..not full red I think that would be really too much..would a cover as per the website examples be okay TEM?

The next stage will be to get a steering wheel sent to Isotta so that they can make the template...has anyone swopped there wheel and has a spare? Obviously you'll get it back!

Otherwise i'll try and get one from a scrappy..unless anyone has any better ideas??

I think if there is 20 that want one I can wrangle the same deal..anyways i'll see how it goes on here, if your interested in one please post and we'll see what position were at!

Cheers,

Mike

Yeah, something like that.

I was just staring at my wheel...I wonder if it would make sense to just get two red parts for the sides and leave the rest as it is..?

Anyone know if the stock cover can be removed without too much violence..?

Something like this?

(sorry about the crappy pic, but hope you get the idea)

if the stock wheel is leather then it could possibly be dyed but as it is black i dont think i will be able to colour it yellow

just spoken to the lads at work and they say its major surgery you would either have to unstitch all the wheel and then remove the cover and separate it into its individual parts stitch the new colored sections into the cover and then refasten to the wheel

all this would have to be done with the proper gear or it will fall apart on you

the other option is to stick the colored section over the top of the current cover which would leave a big step in the wheel.

it might be worth trying it out on a scrap yard wheel

Thanks for the offers guys..I'm not sure this particular thing is going to get off the ground.  Having spoken to Isotta again, it doesn't seem viable for them to make a new mould for 10 or so orders of the steering wheel at below the current RSP.  Plus they would only be able to supply 10 red/black 10 silver black etc..

Its a shame as I also talked about the possibility of having the MR2 logo engraved on the leather...which would have been pretty cool, and on an order of 30 would have been £7 extra each (cost of tool)

I'm thinking I may well pay to have the 30 made up..and then maybe sell them on Spyderchat..I'll have to see what the demand would be like..plus shipping to America would kill any margin that I could make if I had them made up myself to sell the additional ones across the pond..

Anyways i'll keep you posted.

Cheers,

Mike
