I notice when I had the front bumper off today that there is a placement for an additional fan on the radiator? anyone know why this is there?

I'm guessing, but teh I know that the aircon rad sits in front of the main rad. When stationary I would suspect this means the main rad gets even hotter.

Perhaps thsoe with Air con get 2 fans.

If I get a chance I'll have a look.

Just checked mine and it has two fans. Don't have A/C or any other options either...

We are talking about the two radiator fans side by side..? Both covering about half of the cell..?

2x MR-S both 'had' AC and both 'have' 2 fans

FYI both fans are different diameters and have a different amount of fins.  I believe one is for cooling down and one is used while on long drives.

You should have both, they aren't AC related.

Oh and mine's a 2000, if that makes any difference...

I don't think it makes any difference in normal drive though. Mine has only turned on a couple of times, when standing still in traffic on the hottest summerdays for a while. And even then it's just few seconds.

It does get pretty dman hot up here in midsummer...usually above 90F in the shadow and well above 140F in the sun (dunno how much, my outdoor temp runs out of scale  s:lol:  s:lol: )

We have loads of info on this now.  It could be a running project.

 s:oops:  s:oops:

I need new glasses...I only have the plastic cover for the 2nd fan, no actual fan or motor in there. And I guess the plastic mold is same for every car...

BTW, BGB says that the 2nd fan is only for cars with A/C (that's what made me look again).
