Wheel Sizes (17")

Im about to buy new wheels (thank you NTL for my bonus s:lol: :lol: s:lol: )

Can someone just confirm the details, I think they are:

PCD: 4 x 100
Offset: 35...38

How wide should I have the tyres? Should I have wider on the back?

PCD is correct, offset is 45 (don't make the same mistake I did), and recommended tyre sizes are:

205/40/17 front
225/35/17 rear, these are fairly close to the stock ratio.

I'm also thinking of swapping my wheels, is the 45 offset the same front and rear and is it a + or - offset?

I believe it is positive, and after some digging found this comment on Spyderchat in relation to 17's:

not a lot I can add to that except if you are going to do it,

a: go for teh lightest wheels you can

b: tyres will be pricey but don't just put some cheap shit on like Nova boy does, on the roadster good tyres are all and will save you from stacking it.

Now before you spend all your hard earned may I ask the reason? If you really want bigger wheels then go for it. If you really want different wheels then go for it.

If however like I once did it's because you hate how small the stock wheels look, this can be cured far cheaper and better IMHO with lowering springs.

If I still gad my 17" in the garage I'd offer to lend them too you for a week or 2. it's only when you go back you really notice the difference.

Yea, I wanted bigger wheels because I think they look better. Im going to be lowering it too (once the GB is underway)

if your going to be lowering it, you really need to keep the offset between 40-45mm otherwise it's going to rub.

In the case of Seans 17" I reckon if lowered it would actually foul the ouside lip of the wheel arch.

Thanks for all the help and advice guys. I did want bigger wheels mainly for 'the looks' but only ever intended to go to 16" not 17". The problem is I want a light wheel and at a sensible price, which is prooving very diffuciult to find! I really want OZ Superlegerra rims but I dont think they do the right off-set in 16" only in 17" s:(

Woodendummy recommend some Racing Hart rims which were very nice but also VERY expensive s:!: :!: s:!:

I know how difficult thats is.

in 16" you've less chance of rubbing than with 17"

also a better balance.

depending on you budget the 03 rears all round would work,

total costs about £730 plus vat and shipping from teh US

and the offset would be right.

failing that if he hasn't sold them Thodwris was looking to sell his SSR 16" which are light, and strong (forged) and look the dogs.

Last website I looked at had the TTE ones at about £250/wheel.

Also... the piccys show a 5 stud wheel... guess the MR2 version will be a little different s:? :? s:?

there you go current price list in euros

a dealer could in theory getthem but they will be more expensive than that.

Should be able to get them at at most that price from the GB we are running with TTE at present.

The Speedline 2120 is a really nice wheel. I had them on my last Westfield but they are only light weight in 17" and above where Speedline use a different manufacturing technique called 'Flow Forming'. In 15" and 16" I don't think they are much lighter than anything else on the market, but they are very nice quality. If anyone wants any I found by far the cheapest way to purchase them was to go direct to Speedline at their warehouse on Telford and ask for a discount, they were happy to help!

Mine came all the way from Italy onspecial order.

your rigth about the sizes and weights though.

17" are barely heavier than 16" in those wheels.
