Right guys for xmas i got some focal components! was CHUFFEDDD to bits! Went to put them in today and my god what an effort , as ive amped them, so hit so many snags started at 10am finished at 5pm, and the funniest thing is i only managed to fit one speaker! as putting the cables through the gromit on the doors is such a effort! but one side is finally done, sounds odd though as ive still got one standard one and the other being a focal, you can really tell the difference between them both! Right heres where i need help! the door card at the bottom of the door wont close .i.e. the actual door card wont connect with the door to close the gap,

soooooooooo this brings me on to say ...how can i resolve the issue? as i did what many people have previously have done and used the current bracket that factory speakers sit in and then destroy the old speaker ready for the new one ...so why wont the door card go on properly at the bottem????

PLEASE help! my day has been nightmare after nightmare ! where am i going wrong???   s:( :( s:(    s:? :? s:?

not a great pic but you can see the gap i can stick my finger up there ''not like that before you get any ideas''  s;) ;) s;)  but it gives you a rough idea , just a bit boogled .. should i of taken the MDF part of the factory speaker ring off? as ive used this to screw the new speakers into ??? so surely it cant be that ?

So has everything else clipped in ok baring the bottom?
Is it all of the bottom clips or just near the speaker?

JoniiBoii

#5

I cant view the pic for some reason...

But, is the speaker fouling on the door card? Is the speaker protruding further than when original?

Will try viewing the pic again...

yeh it seems to not what to flush against the door, and the more i push the more i realise that its the speaker thats in the way ..as all the screws clips are in place other than around the speaker area ..........really annoying, as the speakers are really nice ! sound is brilliant.

Can you take a pic of the speaker fitted to the door without the card in the way?

im gunna do the other one on the sunday coming, sooo i shall take a photo of the one which ive had issues with today and show you , but to be honest its been done correctly ''i think'' LOL only thing i can think of is that the mdf / wooden part of the original speaker ring needed to be removed in order for a speaker with a bigger magnet to sink in properly and allow the door card to clip in .....what do you think ?

Sounds about right to me. I used a template Nathan made for me and just knocked up a set of MDF speaker rings. 12mm thick MDF i believe. Any bigger/thicker than 12mm and will poss be causing the card to to fit flush...

Sounds like you have flattened the  door plugs and its the plug stopping the door card from touching the door

The original Toyota speaker was all plastic, no wooden ring. Maybe somebody added a ring? When you took out the old speaker the complete unit (speaker + surround) should have come out, then either cut out the speaker and replace with yours OR make up a wooden surround to fit your speaker in - but not a maixture of the two.

and ill have a look roger as it doesnt seem to be right , maybe someone did add a spacer before??? hmmm?

I have to say that the only good way of installing speakers in the Roadster is to abandon the old speaker fittings completely and make a new MDF spacer. Far neater and should be a good fit for your new speakers as you design them for those.
Good luck with your install JB.  s;) ;) s;)

just another thought that i found when i did mine,
have you left off the cover that comes with your
new speakers......  s:roll:  s:roll:

LOL good idea chris , but fortunately when i looked in the box they were both there ,

loadswine- im thinking thats probably a good idea, as its been a hassle, but i like the fact its got an extended outta bridge so if water were ever to get down my door card it would protect the speaker  s:) :) s:)  if that makes sense

cheers for the help btw guys keep them ideas coming !! as a parcel shelf idea is in the works at the moment.

I had this whining noise when i changed mine . I found that one of the screws was touching the metal of the door ( the screws you used to fit the speaker to the old surround ) i think that might help

JoniiBoii

hmmm ill check it out when the weather starts to cheer up ,

wont do any harm will it?

plus im gunna use flashing tape on the door cards next  s:) :) s:)

Possible. I had a whining noise after fitting an active sublast year. Re ran the earth from the battery to the chassis but made no difference. Fitted ferrite rings to the RCA's at the HU but made no difference.

So i sold it and fitted 2 subs and no problems  s;) ;) s;)

Have you got an active sub fitted or just the speakers so far?
