Hi, both my mr2's at toyota dealer today to swap exhaust, manifold, and unichip. They've just rang to say when the plugged in the unichip onto my new car it wouldn't start, when they took it off again it wouldn't start either. They say the ecu is frozen and don't know how to get it going. want to chrge me £550 for a new one. Anyone know anything, or is d'ck off suspension yet and i could ask him if i can get an ecu from his breakers? Whether its the dealers fault at the moment is irrevelant i just need to get it going again.
Many thanks,
Dave

Never heard of this happening before, disconnect the battery and leave it 15 mins, connect it all back up and try again.
If it really is totally fubar then I have  a spare ECU, keys etc

Extremely rare for an ECU to blow, or "Freeze".
Unichips have been known to pop their clogs, have they completely removed the plug & play part?
They have checked all fuses I takes it (IGN2 is a favourite in these situations).

You would do best to get hold of an MR-S ECU to avoid the immobiliser situation (keys not coded to it).
Or an Apexi PFC would likely cost the same as MR T are quoting for the standard ECU.

What a pain!
Dealer broke it?
Dealer provides courtesy car?

They've checked all the fuses.
They've removed they harness, plugged in their readers and there is no connection to the ecu. Whatever has happened it doesn't work. So am hoping Russ can help me out with his spare.
At least I've got the new sable back (they swapped the working ecu from the blue into it) and reprogrammed my keys.
And I have a unichip + harness sat in a box, but daren't risk plugging it back in again   s:( :( s:(
Thanks chaps for all your ideas.

Or at least make a contribution or heavily discount your bill and make sure they don`t charge for fitting the ECU.

...or, Dealer will blame Unichip. Surprised they would even touch the Unichip actually, my old dealer used to refer to my H&S exhaust as 'Non-Genuine' on all paperwork when servicing, MOT etc. and made no comment on the state of it during inspections where they were checking everything else.

Dealer agreed to do all the work, the mechanic used to own mr2's and new what the unichip was and also about the precats.
Just waiting for a reply from Russ.

Unfortunately, i need to go to work now.
The dealership have the ECU I bought of Russ, put it in the car and they have tested it with their readers and it is communicating so it works. However they need the key that goes with that ecu (or the innards from that key to swap into mine) to get the car to start.
Hopefully Russ has the key or I'm back to having a dead car   s:( :( s:(

I still dont beleive they need the keys, can anyone confirm?
If they need the keys surely they will need
Body ECU
Keys
Door locks
Ignition barrell
Glove box?

Cant they just reprogramme the keys in the same way they did on Monday?

I believe you need at least one master key (actually just the immobiliser chip) paired to the ECU in order to pair a new key.. I stand to be corrected, though. (They wouldn't need all the other stuff you listed, just the key or if not the key, it's immobiliser transponder chip)

When I had my 2zz + ECU fitted to my car by Rogue they said I needed to have the ECU which is paired to the coil around the ignition barrel and the the key which is paired to the coil. Don't know if this is correct though.

EDIT: After the conversion was done, they reprogrammed all my current keys to the new setup.

I think they need one of the keys so they can add the new ones to the ECU immobiliser.
They can then send the key back once it's done ... it doesn't even need to fit the lock, they just need the transponder to pair with the ECU.
