Anyone been skimmed?

Hi

My 2's in the garage again getting a 40K service and I've just had a call to say that the front discs need replacing as they are corroded on the inside (all 4 replaced due to hub-rusting only last July), but their warranty man wants them skimmed first.

I'm not sure I'm happy with them being skimmed, has anyone here had this done by Toyota? Should I try and force the issue and get them replaced.

Let them do it, drive away and phone up a week later complaining of vibration under braking at about 110mph, and they'll replace them. You can usually get what you want from the dealers, you just have to do it their way...

Skimming is first line of defence, I had mine done waaayyy back, got to say I hadn't noticed a problem, before or after - they are just being renewed now at 55k due to rust.....

As post above says, take it away then complain somemore a little later on and they will proably replace.

They're going to skim it first, and if the discs get too thin then they'll replace them.

I did voice my concern about skimming, I wouldn't mind on a Yaris but this is a sports car!.

As usual it's got to wait for another month before I can get a courtesy car so I'll have to wait and see how it turns out.

HAd mine skimmed...and the hubs painted.  Did a good job...no adverse braking problems..though ill get them changed at the 10k service

Make sure the pads are replaced at the same time too, as if the rust has intruded onto the braking surface, the pads will be somewhat less than flat and the problem will re-occur within a matter of days as the pad will not be evenly cleaning the surface of the disk  s:? :? s:?

Yeah, the pads are down on the worksheet to be replaced, at my cost of course.

if it's warranty (first 3 years) Pads are part of the deal, DON'T YOU PAY FOR THEM, that is there responsibility.

I had them replaced when they skimmed mind FOC.

They weren't budging on that and to be honest I don't mind - I would have expected to replace the pads within 40K miles, but not the discs, twice  s:wink: :wink: s:wink:

Pads, like oil, filters and tyres etc. are classed as consumables and are NOT covered by the warranty. My dealer is as most of you know, very... understanding, but charged me for new pads when the discs were swopped again recently - as I would have expected. Trust me, if they were in any way covered by the warranty, my dealer would not have charged me.
