Right, have searched for this, but nothing gives me a "definitive" answer, so going to have to ask.

When I was down at Markiii's for "decatting", there seemed to be a fair amount of talk about coolant level changes. Now, before the decatting on my car, the coolant level was rock solid. never budged. Since it has been decatted, the level of coolant has been VERY slowly dropping. Nothing detrimental I think (i.e. there is no white smoke and the temp level is perfect), but I was wondering what you guys thought of this? Is this a symptom of now not having the pre-cats in? Or something else maybe? I am not overtly worried about it to be honest cos the drop in level is so slow, but it has dropped below the minimum mark for the first time in ownership.

Any thoughts?

Think more along the lines of ambiant weather conditions. These will have a bigger effect on your coolant level than the pre-cats removal. Remember the exhaust has no connection with the coolant system, its simply a system for removing spent gasses from the engine and directing them outside. Ok some measure of noise reduction is involved, and sure the gasses get cleaned up a bit on the way out, but essentialy its just a bit of tube...

Also remeber the amount of coolant between max and min is what, half a litre? compare that to the total capacity of the system, including the rad, heater, engine block, hoses...

Its not much. and not worth concerning your self about until you have a case of "there one day, gone the next", Thats coolant loss!

If it makes you feel any better John, my coolant level hasn't changed since I had the car, including the decat...
