Quote from: "Meeerrrk"Thanks Tommy. I haven't really had a chance to try it out yet because I'm being really careful while running it in. Out of interest what regime did you use for your tuned 1zz rebuilt engine?

I don't know what gear oil was used when the box was done so I'm changing that with the engine oil once I've done this magic 500 miles! Ordered the Redline MT90 from Opie oils again.

310 down (plus the miles Patick did)  s:D :D s:D  getting there

Hi Mark
We did in total about 1000 miles running it in

We did the first 500 miles on special running in oil (millers) then switch to redline 5/30 and still use that now

Started off for the first 250miles keeping below 3k but loading the engine using ¼ and ½ throttle on a/b roads not sitting on a motorways just gently driving it around
Then started to increase the revs to 4-4.5k still only ¼ - ½ throttle for the next 250miles

Once we had done this we swapped out the running in oil and continued to drive it around and slowly started to take the revs up to 5/6k occasionally, and using full throttle but only a few times for another 500miles and also did a bit of motor way driving but not much mainly b/a roads loading the engine on hills etc

As we got closer to the 1000miles we started taking it to the red line occasionally
Then after about 1500 mile we took it on the track and thrashed it and was fine never missed a beat since

hope this helps

cheers tommy

Brill thanks. Similar to what jaworjawor has said, which means I'm doing all the right things! I'll be swapping my oil soon  s:) :) s:)

I've had that lift off over-run grinding rattle on 2 cars - My Mk1 MR2 and an impreza. Both got absolutely thrashed, I did about 20K miles in the MR2 with that noise including 6 trackdays IIRC, and it didn't worsen and nothing failed. I put it down to 'character'.....

Thanks, makes me feel a little better but I'd rather know what caused it. Did you ever get to the bottom of it?

Mine was a collapsed bearing in the diff.... Mechanically sympathetic I ain't. I sold the car with a £50 spare gearbox, and the next owner reported thst swapping it out and putting a new clutch on it cured it.

The secret is to care less. If it was perfect, it would be an insult to God.

I suspect diff to be honest. I suspect something has happened when swapping it between boxes. FML!

I'd suspect diff as well. Was it all reshimmed to suit the tolerances in the new box? I didn't do this with mine and it whined ever so slightly on the overrun so suspected it was down to that.

I've always been told when you change the clutch to always use a Toyota release bearing!

Who knows! From what I've been reading and what people have said, it sounds as if not....

I'm going to change the fluid in the box but I very much doubt that will help.

I'll have to get one of my fiends to look at it for me, he has a workshop near Uxbridge  s:( :( s:(

You should take it back to the person who fitted the LSD in the gearbox.

Should yes, but It's just too much hassle for me to keep going all that way at great expense in both time and money to do so!

I thought you were on holiday? I'm surprised you didn't notice the noise when you did those 130miles.

Any way, as I read between the lines, it's down to me, and as said I can't keep bringing the car back and forward at great personal expense in both time and money.

In other news, I'm over 350miles now - I should be at the point that I can change the oil out but I'm going to cover the 500 miles myself to ensure its done the required mileage. With my luck, and all that!

500 very careful miles done! Been enjoying driving the car for the sake of it, even with the horrible gearbox noise. And even though I can't Rev it yet.

So ready for an engine oil change, gearbox oil change change and start bringing the revs up, and , maybe, even bring it briefly into lift!

I've also 90% decided to join the Toyota sprint series in 2016 so I will need to get the car fully run in and tried and tested before March  s:) :) s:)
