Looks absolutely wonderful! As the Euro is good take a trip down to France, that will put some miles on it.

Managed to get 170miles on it now, so that's 300 in total already  s:) :) s:)

I went out earlier today and played with my BC coilovers.

Fully soft is how I've been running them and they are quite comfy, to be fair quite reasonable.

Next I went to fully hard (32 clicks) - Wow! Rock solid, uncomfortable on normal roads but get it through a sweeping bend and it felt unbelievably planted and controlled!

I've now set them to half way and was as expected, a nice compromise but for road, I'll go back to fully soft.

The Wilwood brakes are hard to judge - I've already adjusted my foot to the feel and I do notice I'm only lightly pushing the pedal, plus I'm not anywhere near getting them hot due to the slow driving. However I did jump on them once to see how they felt and they pulled the car up pretty damn hard! So I'm sure with some heat in them and a heavy foot, they are going to feel great!

Did you feel the standard brakes were struggling on a normal stop? Or just that they faded over time? For me the stock brakes with Yellow Stuff pads had it on it's nose all day long at Bedford, definitely tyre grip limited not brake power limited... but I was just running 1zz on a stock car on road tyres, so maybe on stickier tyres and track focussed suspension the limit would be found?

The standard brakes with braided hoses, decent fresh fluid and good pads (yellow stuff and upwards) are very very good.

I did get them too hot once but only the once, that said i only managed two dry days last year!

So why did I buy them!? I needed new discs, pads and wanted to get refurb calipers - so the Wilwood kit was not much more money in total.

Time will tell if they feel better on track for prolonged sessions and with lots of heat but I can't see why not. The bite with a firm push is pretty impressive  s:) :) s:)

And they look great  s:D :D s:D

So 200 miles till first oil change, then how long after that till you can drive it harrrrrrddd?  s:) :) s:)   Get a few hundred miles on it this weekend! if you don't have the time, jack the rear up, shove it in 6th and leave a brick on the accelerator for a day, that will get you up to the magic mileage  s:) :) s:)  (probably not the best idea) and come along to Bedford on the 1st of august, that's got to be over 100miles from you so remember to add that to what you have left to do  s:) :) s:)

I need to get to 500 miles, then I can change for fully synthetic - I've got some Titan Race Pro S ready to go in.

Currently at about 350, so maybe by the weekend at this rate.

Once I've changed to that fully synth I can run it a bit higher in the revs and dip it into the lift very briefly now and again.

Once I get to 1000 miles I can start to drive it with a bit more enthusiasm - although I'm in no rush to do that.

1st August I am away unfortunately

Do you need some to rack up some miles for you mark? I do about 200 a week if that helps?  s;-) ;-) s;-)

You'd be sick of the noise, seats, harnesses and ride comfort after the first day! Just ask Patrick  s:D :D s:D

Hows the K&N working? The air feed coming from the standard location?

Yep it seems really good. The feed is coming from the original position, I might try direct into the side vent though

Cheers for the reply mate, good to know your thoughts!

Keep piling the miles on, I'm glad your stuck with it through the troubles and are emerging out the other side now!

I've got the 1zz and gearbox split so I'll take celica and mr2 boxes to Dave and exchange for a c64 hybrid, then I need to install ancillaries and get the 2zz back in the cat and it'll be mot time... Can't wait until my car looks as nice as yours, though there are quite a few more spanner hours before I reach that point!

Well that's a tank of fuel and 300 miles done. Getting through it quicker than I thought!

One thing I have noticed, I get a strange and slightly uncomfortable sound from the gearbox on over-run, deceleration... But not always. Seems to occur in any gear.

Anyone have any ideas what that might be?

Done a bit of googling and sounds like it might be diff, any thoughts?

Sounds like clutch release bearing.

Really? Will it fail, in your opinion or is it a noise I should just get used to?

J03

#996
If it's like a scraping/sandpaper-esque scrubbing noise, which only occurs on deceleration with clutch engaged, then I'd say most definitely. I had it on the Celica for around 3-4 years without any bother, when the ACT clutch went in & new release bearing, the noise disappeared.

Yes it is similar, the circumstances certainly correct. Noise is hard to describe. It's also difficult to gauge because my car has no sound deadening so noises are quite loud!

I had a new Exedy clutch when the engine was installed. I didn't notice this first time round, only since being taken apart and the engine rebuilt.

I'll see about getting a replacement bearing in there at some point.

Thanks for your input

all looking really good mark mate glad to see the mile going on, it must be a great car to drive now,

also a sure sign your clutch release bearing is on its way out is a judder on the clutch pedal when engaging the clutch pulling away in first

Thanks Tommy. I haven't really had a chance to try it out yet because I'm being really careful while running it in. Out of interest what regime did you use for your tuned 1zz rebuilt engine?

I don't know what gear oil was used when the box was done so I'm changing that with the engine oil once I've done this magic 500 miles! Ordered the Redline MT90 from Opie oils again.

310 down (plus the miles Patick did)  s:D :D s:D  getting there
