Right i know this will cause debate, i have been speaking to impossible performance for some time, they have a turbo kit which includes EVERYTHING i.e intercooler, extra injector and e-manage the kit is supposedly made by G-Reddy and the individual price is £2600 this includes vat and stuff, the guy at impossible said if we could get five orders then this would significantly drop and i would hope in the region of £2000 which i think is a great price considering what it includes and the maker if it is G-Reddy so what do people think i am interested are there others?????

G-reddy? or Greddy?

show me teh website? or is thsi a kit that impossible have put together themselves?

I really hope you have more info than you've given us so far as it would be a foolish decision to make with so little.

what do you mean

who has it been mapped by, if it has?

whats their reasoning for going the additonal injector route?

what boost is it to operate at?

at this boost has it been dyno'd, if so what bhp?

Are there any other roadster/spyders using this kit?

How long for?

Is it an intercooler or chargecooler?  If it is an intercooler where is it being placed?

Is there an additional air scoop to get cold air to it?

Is the fuel pump uprated?

Thers a few for you to be geting on with    s:wink:  s:wink:

Precisely my point, without knowing all that and more, your basing your choice of kit on>, well quite frankly not a lot.

If it's proven and worthwhile, then yes, as I'm currently in the market.

ok people i am waiting on a email from impossible, i will do lots of dgging and see where i get? sounds good though component wise at least, doing the same thing regarding the brs wide arch kit £2000 any 1   s8) 8) s8)   thats the price i am aiming for

As i said before greddy haven't made a specific turbo kit for the mr-s. Greddy make turbo's so maybe this place has/is making a turbo kit using 1of their turbo's.

If they haven't built any yet but feel confident they can "cause it's just an engine", then i wouldn't want to be the guinipig for a new kit, whatever the cost. Takes alot of R+D to make a good reliable kit.

To be honest if they had designed a specific mr-s kit then i'm sure someone would of heard about them or seen an advert somewhere, i mean they have a limited audience and the MR2 web sites are easy to find to sound off to a captive bunch.

Check also it isn't just a celica they've turbo'd and are assuming that cause the '2 has the same engine it'll work.

Saying all this if they can get all this for £2k it is a very good price, for the UK anyway.Keep us informed, obviously i'm not intersested to purchase it though.  s:roll:  s:roll:

BRS kit wise, the new kit their making is estimated cost of $3000, so that's less than £2k already.Think you need to aim lower not higher.  s:shock:  s:shock:  (unless it's another kit)

Anonymous

#10
that is correct the brs kit is in line with the price of monocaft kit, apr and veilside and so through a performance shop would cost in the same region i.e £2800 ish so to aim lower is a bit confident, you dont get wide body kits for that sort of money and aiming at £2000 is bloody good I think for what will be a bolt on kit

Anonymous

#11
Eh? BRS will be selling the kit direct for $3000 (£1658). Not sure if your meaning £2800 with fitting, but the kit itself is under £2k

Anyway, slap my own wrists, this wants to be discussed in appearance.

Ok, I can hold my tongue no longer..

This is the same place that you've previously mentioned, that have told you they'll make a front mounted intercooler setup, complete with pipes from the front of the car to the rear, right?

If so, I'd walk.. no, run.. away from them very quickly indeed, to be brutally honest.   s:( :( s:(

I know Perry will tell me that I haven't owned a turbo '2 and that you can only speak from experience etc  s;) ;) s;) , but simple engine theory (and a history of having owned, maintained and tuned turbo cars, oh and grenading the odd engine when it went wrong) tells us that introducing probably close to 20ft of pipework between the airflow sensor and the engine is really not that great an idea - the closest thing I can think of would be the 300's setup (trust me, it's a horrible mess of pipework  s:) :) s:) ), and it's far from ideal.. I have a feeling it would cause other problems down the line, other than just lag.

Quite apart from that - I smack the underside of the car every time I go over the speedhump outside my house - I can't imagine anyone having the clearance to put a metal boost-carrying pipe under the car  s:shock:  s:shock:

Now, if their setup is a rear mounted IC (which isn't ideal) or a chargecooler than ignore everything I've said.. but still, I'm wary..

Just my 2penneth, and apologies that I only seem to be posting negative things recently.   s:cry:  s:cry:

s:lol:  s:lol:  Front mount IC.Can you imagine what psi you'd need to boost to see any psi at the throttle body before you'd have to change gear because you've ran out of N/A revs.

I'm sure no-one is stupid enough to attempt that sort of IC, i do hope they meant a front mount heat exchange for a chargecooler.

If not please post here i'm in need of a few laughs.

Aaron stop being so bloody negative all the time, i mean what the f*** do you know about a turbo'd '2 anyway.Go get one and don't comment again till you know what your on about!!!  s:wink:  s:wink:

Ok I dug up the original post and I was wrong, it was 'hypersports' who were talking about a FMIC, not 'impossible performance', and the quote was:

Quotehypersports in warrington are going to fit a front mounted cooler and hard pipe it back to whatever turbo i go for

Anyway, I'll retract my comments, just so long as nobody fits a FMIC to a '2  s;) ;) s;)

Stuff it up yer a... oh, wait, you were kidding  s;) ;) s;)   s:lol:  s:lol:

Part of me would love to turbo the '2, but the rest of me knows that I can't afford to, especially not while running two cars (OK OK, not quite running, as one is in bits in the garage  s:lol:  s:lol:  )

Anyhow.. something inside me says I'd prefer a company who had proven their setup on at least one car.. But if the kit works on your car and shows a good dyno chart newboy (it feels so rude calling you that  s:) :) s:) ), then I'm sure others would buy the kit..

thanks for your comments i am keen to see what impossible has to offer for that sort of money, just cos its unheard of doesnt me that its no good? we will have to see as for the kit, it will not be available in the uk for that sort of money (£1600) the same as the veilside, once shipping and import duty has been added, the kit would cost around the same as the veilside and retail at similar cost, i want to bring it the kits and expand the number of wide 2's now dont want to say anything else because i want to keep this link open when i get info on the kit

Not at all - every kit has to start out on someones car - even PE will have had a development car, and their failures, blow ups etc - it's just that we never hear about them.. and they don't happen on customers cars (because PE can afford to blow their own cars up  s:D :D s:D )

What people are saying, really, is that this kit is a total unknown from a supplier that we (well, I, certainly) have never heard of - we don't know their pedigree, so we have nothing to base an assessment of their ability to produce a working kit (on budget with no disasters) on - tuning a '2 is a lot different from tuning a Pinto engined Ford, for example.

On the other hand, for all we know, they could have produced dozens of proven products on other modern EFI cars..

I think what you'll find is that once you get (a lot) more details on the kit, people will be a bit more upbeat about it - and if you get one fitted to yours and it proves reliable over a few thousand miles, people will be very receptive to the idea if it's at a good price..

One other thing - if you're not totally comfortable with asking them all about the technical ins and outs of the kit, perhaps you could suggest they pop along to the site and we can all put our questions and concerns to them directly?  s:) :) s:)

Would save us accidentally shooting the messenger..  s;) ;) s;)   s:lol:  s:lol:   s:) :) s:)

All IMHO of course  s:) :) s:)

I am a little confused, this thread keeps drifting (well jumping) from turbo to kits to turbos to kit.

Can we keep it on topic...turbo....Kit talk can be kept in the appearence
section, where I do believe there is already a thread on this same subject.

Thanks.

its turbo this turbo that on here at the mo! hehe  s:lol:  s:lol:

just seems strange, that from out of nowhere, impossible performance suddenly have a complete turbo kit for the '2 and no one's heard of it. and by the sounds of it, if they are confident enough to start selling the kit to customers they must have finished all their R&D, testing ect. where are impossible perfomance based?

'tis a good time to own a '2   s:wink:  s:wink:

It's almost a given that performance parts companies will have dire websites I think.. Paul's (Whifbitz) is the best car parts site I've seen, and even that could do with a tweak or two (no offence Paul  s:) :) s:) ) for browsers other than IE.

Er, sorry, work mode for a second there!

Can't find any mention of an MR2 turbo kit on there - but I do recognise the site, a couple of 300 owners bought BOVs from there..

I'm gonna put my money on their 'kit' just being a bunch of parts they're bundling together, but I'd dearly like to be proven wrong.

Oh btw - Pace Products website is worse than that, as you can only visit one page within it before the menu system breaks  s;) ;) s;)   s:lol:  s:lol:

Now, back on topic before Craig beats me with a wet haddock.

[edit] I suddenly have zero confidence that the guy behind Whifbitz is called Paul for some reason.. er.. If I'm wrong, I apologise!  s:) :) s:)  [/edit]
