For anyone with a G-Tech Competition Pro, I just thought I'd let you know that the long-awaited Road Racing firmware and software upgrade is available from Tesla here.

Even though plotting the car's track would be "iffy" at best without a heading sensor, I'm going to write a dead reckoning program to estimate the car's track and another one to plot tracks just to have a little challenge.  If it works out, I'll make it available for download on socalspyders.com.  If I think it is gee whiz, I may charge a little something for it, but that's getting ahead of myself.

It took Tesla a long time (over a year) to come out with this upgrade from the time I first heard about it.  I wrote them asking for information on their output file format so I could develop a dyno program and one of their engineers told me about the Road Racing upgrade.  A lot of people, including me, got pretty miffed at them for taking so long and I'm pretty sure that they tried to do what I'm going to attempt.  That's the only thing I can think of that would delay the upgrade that long.

Anyway, it is a free upgrade and may have some bug fixes, too.

I downloaded and installed the new PASS software and the firmware upgrade yesterday - getting it onto the unit was a hassle (110v socket in bathroom, PC in office, laptop doesn't have a serial port  s:roll:  s:roll:  ) but it's on now. I'll have a play with it soon.

Yep I have pass installed just about to download it to my unit.  Looking forward to trying it out.  Might be worthwhile, now its more functionable putting together a mod list and changes ie

Chassis brace - incerase in cornering G
Front strut brace - increase in cornering G
Performance mods etc
B&M short shifter - difference in change speed

IF everyone did a few you could build up quite a comprehensive database?

Sounds interesting...keep us posted on your experiences with it  s8) 8) s8)
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.

Installed the firmware last night, I seemingly couldn't get past stage 2 which was "connect one end of your GTECH to the serial cable" No matter what i tried failed, baud rates, messing around with the com port itself etc etc, only to find that I needed to "check" two statements as opposed to the one I had.  Doh!

After that everything installed fine. And just starting to get to grips with the RR software, seems pretty good, though Tesla have a few things to learn in terms of ergonomic menu systems.

Beanie is working on 'mapping' the course your on which would be excellent, because I really dislike the 'gyroscopic' display for g's. I can see what it's trying to tell me, but it just looks a mess to me.

Also a little dissapointed power and torque are not displayed on RR. I would willingly have given up some of the memory storage to have that logged on RR.

On the positive side, I like that the RPM screen is less cluttered, and it only shows lat G now, also seems to be more accurate for some strange reason.  Whether this is because the software now has a 'blending' function instead of jumping sparadically I don't know.

The summary option is excellent too, showing max rpm, and G's (lat/vert)

All in all a useful addition, and thank you Tesla for delivering on what you promised! My GTECH is no longer for sale...  s:wink:  s:wink:
