Now then chaps and chap'esses, thought you may like to know this.

Example using BP Ultimate 97 Ron. message sent by BP represenative to GT4OC.

The RON (Research Octane Number) for BP Ultimate Unleaded is guaranteed 97. For Performance vehicles it is also helpful to know the MON (Motor Octane Number). This is where the Antiknock quality is tested at full throttle and High engine speed, and part throttle and low&high engine speeds. The MON for Ultimate Unleaded is guaranteed 86, however it is typically higher, up to 87.5.

so its not actually the RON that helps with knock but the MON , the realtionship between RON and MON is not clear from this communication tho.

I think I've mentioned several times, that RON pretty much only tells the knocking tendency on idle  s;) ;) s;)  MON is what matters.
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.

Is Ultimate what you use Perry? I need to get into the habit of filling with the best turbo friendly fuel, I use Optimax at the moment, Ultimate if I am near a BP when I need to fill up, although the Shell is nearer when I'm at home.

to be honest mate I'm not overly fussy as long as its a higher octane version.  I know people have their preferences but I just fill up at the next 'super' 'ultimate' 'optimax' pump   s:wink:  s:wink:

While I'm on..........when are you next in sunderland?  I'm due to go up to the N/E for a few days and could arrange around yourself if your up that way soonish?

I'll PM to keep on topic re. my visits  s:wink:  s:wink:

So, do you have to alter the maps in the e-manage from brand to brand, or is any super OK with the one map?

no mate, as longs as your on the higher octane stuff the mapping will be the same.

When we tuned my car with the greddy software and a wide band O2 sensor, my mapping came out the same as Ians, two different cars and most probably two different petrols as well made no disernable difference.
