I went to collect my New MR2 last Saturday. The dealer showed me the car.

Wow, I just melted - it was amazing.

Sorry, back to topic. He warned me that when they cleaned the car after it arrived, they noticed a major blemish in the bonnet paint:

Not very clear pic, sorry, but basically it looks like some type of wrapping or sticker was on the car and the glue has marked the paint. But, it seems to be under the polish, not on the surface.

Anyway, the dealer said not to worry as they would 'fix' it. I took the car back on Monday so they could take a couple of pics and send them to the main Greek dealer. The car is now booked in next Monday for the morning while they make the repair. They say they will t-cut the paint and repolish.

Today I cleaned the car for the first time, and have now noticed that on the wing, and engine cover there are similar problems - not so bad though.

Has this problem happened to anyone else?

I think they are the relatively common lacquer blemishes, they can be easily removed with a heat gun IIRC, which is what the dealer will do I expect.

Same on my new one last month...  s:roll:  s:roll:   When the cars come over on the ship they have white plastic stuck over the bonnet, engine cover, and the tops of the wings. This sometimes reacts with the laquer. My bonnet and engine lid were re-sprayed a week after I picked it up.

Same on mine exactly one year ago, major blemish on bonnet which was resprayed. Strangely it was hardly noticable until I parked under one of those very bright security lights that was fixed to my sisters house. I thought she was joking when after she had been out to admire my car she asked who had spilled something over the bonnet.

All fixed! Took the car in earlier this week. The kept it for a morning and 'polished' it. So they said, but the results are perfect. Just wish the weather would improve so that I can drive with the top down and above 3k rpm - around bends!

Woah!  Respray!

Like Sean said, this is common and is fixed by reheating the car.  Mine was put in an oven affair and then put under UV to check.

Normally it is only visable under sun light I didnt notice mine for about two months after we got it.

My dealer promised to get the heat gun on mine, but the marks went away on their own, during the summer, before I got round to taking it in.

Had the exactly the same problem on the front of my sable mr2.

The blemish only showed under strong sunlight, and it appeared to be underneath the top surface layer.

The dealer took it straight back and resprayed the hood.

Did a great job.

As you say, no need for respray!

I disagree, both myself and my dealer attempted to get rid of the blemish by way of heating, but to no avail... Respray was required.  But on the plus side, I now have a paint finish a little thicker and hopefully more resiliant to stonechips...

Wonder if yours is a different problem from the one that goes away with heat?

I was decidely reluctant, but it was done on the proviso that if I wasnt 100% happy with it, a new car would be ordered... Thus they spent 3 days mixing different paint samples to get the right match before they even touched the car. To be honest, its a fairly minor thing, and although I was a little upset that the car that was only supposed to be "2 weeks sir", had taken 4 months to actually turn up was defective from the off, I was aware of past owners problems, and so was happy for them to have a go. In fact, the only thing that upset me during the whole episode was when I wheeled in my 3 day old '2 and they tried to give me a Fiat Panda courtesy car... I must admit, I did lose it a little at that point:

"You want me to drive that? I'd rather f*@king walk home!"

I was immeditaley shown a new Avensis T3, with enough toys to keep me occupied for the duration of the paintwork.
