Well, I finally did it! Fitted Focal 165As. Now I'm a member of the better sound club.

Pretty easy to do (no amp at this stage), although the first door took a day.  s:oops:  s:oops:   I had to keep popping to the shop (in the other car – mine was in bits) to buy the things I'd forgotten! And on one occasion Bev had gone to Sainsburys in the other car – which meant I had a huge wait for her to get back so I could use it.  s:roll:  s:roll:   I also sound deadened the doors and silicon'd anything on the reverse of the door card that either rattled or touched something else!  s:evil:  s:evil:

The second door (the next day) took a little over two hours...  s:lol:  s:lol:

So when I get some more cash I'll get an amp (under the rear storage bin floor) and possibly speakers in the head rests – post '03 cars have holes in the seat backs, y'know!  s:twisted:  s:twisted:

Hi!

I'm very ashamed to admit this but I'm having a lot of trouble fitting the focals in my car!   s:oops:  s:oops:

The problem is the cabling.  I can't get it into the cockpit from the drivers side door (haven't attempted the passenger door).  I can pass the cable through the rubber tube into the cockpit but cant get it from the cockpit to the headunit.  Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

Remove the seat and lay on the floor on your back, that should make things a lot easier  s8) 8) s8)

You have to remove the kick panel in the footwell first, and then put the cable into the hole in the inner wing from the outside, and feed it in a downwards direction. If you then put your fingers in the hole behind the kick panel, you'll fell the cable and will be able to pull it through.

If you're not installing an amp then just use the existing cable...

Hi,

Thanks for the responses!

I'm not using an amp at the mo but I intend to use one and fit an Alpine CDA31 or CDA33 too at a later stage.  I was told that the existing cable was pap so wanted to use something a bit better.

My problem is that I have run the cable through the rubber tube that links the door to the cockpit but there is a metal plate that has one hole and a clear plastic block with cables coming out (i think, i was laying on my back looking up at the time).  How on earth do I reach the cable?

Also, have just had a look at the passenger door.  Looks like a nightmare with a lot more stuff in the way.  Any tips for the passenger side?

I have to admit I'm a bit miffed, so many other peeps seem to find this easy to do yet I'm having a right headache about this.  Half tempted to get a professional to fit it but don't fancy paying someone £80 just to sort the cabling out!

Cheers.

GSB,  What are you referring to by 'kick panel'?  Do you mean the quarter circular bit by the rand hand side of your feet (when sitting in the drivers seat)?

Cheers.

Thats the one. You have to pull the plastic sill cover off first, and remove the plastic fastener right at the front of the kick panel (almost under the throttle pedal). Once you remove that, there is a hole in the steel work low down in the panel (by your ankle). The cable has to go through the hole in the door frame, then about 6 inches straight down, where you can fish it out of the hole under the kick panel, you then route it straight back up again and under the dashboard. You can only do this by pulliing the rubber grommet that goes between the door and frame out of the frame. Once its out you feed your cable through the hole stright down towards the floor.

Yeah, the plastic panel (that you easily kick) that is held in place by one plastic plug.

Right, I managed to get the cable through to the Headunit now   s:D :D s:D   My next question is how did you connect the cable to the white box where the existing cables are plugged into?  Did you just pull the speaker cables out by pushing the prongs out of the white box, removing the cable and somehow connecting the new, thicker speaker cable or did you use something else?

Thanks again for all your help!  (think this may be the longest speaker install in the clubs history!!)

You need a conversion cable that switches Jap to European ISO standard.

Erm, I'm still using the fisher price unit (not for too long though!) so will this ISO adapter still work?

Yes you are just plugging a connector into the one that pulls out of Fisher Price stereo that has the correct connectors on the other end to convert to any standard Euro ISO stereo head unit.

Guys,

Just come back from Halfords.  I have a 'Car Audio Connector' with part number PC2-17-4.  Can any of you guys confirm this is the right one (I did explain to the guy exactly what you guys said but looks different to waht I thought it would be).

Thanks again!

The adapter I have is this:

 m http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/default ... 92_317_606 m

If this is correct then i've still got my thick hat on I'm afraid!  I don't quite understand how I can connect my thick, good quality audio cable with this without cutting the existing cable or pulling out the cable in the adapter and using the thick cable.

Sorry, can someone please explain.

Don't mean to be a pain, this is my first ever install!  s:( :( s:(
