Markiii asked to see some pics of the wheel / hub I bought from Perry, so I thought I may as well put them up for all to see - bear in mind I'm 6' 4" with long legs on the second pic.
For tall people this is an excellent mod IMO, if you can live without the airbag - oh, and the wheel isn't really that strange orange colour, that's just my poor photography skills)

That looks really nice.  I currently have no steering wheel in my car (long story) and was looking at the Momo Millenium.

Are the hubs universal?  Did you have any fitting problems?

It's a momo hub (I'll look the part number up in a bit, as they are specific), and fitting was easy enough. Perry has modified this hub though with some spindles, to enable the indicator auto-cancel feature, which is handy  s:) :) s:)

It's part number 7730

There is a great thread on hubs here...  m http://spyderchat.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=15552 m

I was thinking about this when Perry was selling, but as you say you lose the airbag, and various enquiries I've made around would seem to indicate you cannot have an air bag fitted ie nobody does a kit or mod that will allow the air bag back.

Accordingly I (or more specifically Mrs R) decided the air bag was a must.

Unless.....anybody else knows any differently.

This is true, unless you swap it out for a TRD one, which is no smaller, looks exactly the same and has a few coloured bits  s:? :? s:?

Looked on the TRD website - no steering wheels, where did you think you saw it? When you say 'no smaller' presumably it includes the flat bottom?

It is available from  w www.japanparts.com w   Momo have also now released an airbag aftermarket wheel although its not cheap.

Thanks for the info Sean

BTW, the momo hub as mentioned doesn't provide the stock hub facilities, ie. rotating horn contact, indicator auto-cancel and airbag light circuit. Perry modifies mine to work the auto-cancel, and a long piece of wire rotates with the wheel for the horn - you can fool the airbag system with a resistor placed between the connector but I have yet to try this out - I currently have electrical tape over the light!

There is a CMR hub kit available from Taka Kaira that works with the stock parts that fulfils these functions, but by the time you have imported the part it will work out expensive.

See here.....

There are tons of TRD stuff that don't get listed in the english pages. Here's the wheel:

...I wish there was a way to change the wheel without that stupid rubber springylooking cover. I absolutely hate them  s:? :? s:?
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.

Also most insurance companies won't touch you if you remove the airbag!

Yaris T-Sport wheel comes with silver inserts, am looking into whether or not it'd fit

Yes, if you are thinking od doing this it is probably wise to check first, although those of us with mod-friendly companies like Dorset, Brentacre and Adrian Flux shouldn't have any trouble.

I've got the Momo Evolutionize and 7730 hub, i'll be fitting it this afternoon

Could you tell me what was modified to allow the indicator auto cancel to work?

BTW a jspec badge sits perfectly behind the rim that holds the horn on, it looks like it came with it!

Perry drilled two holes into the rear face of the hub and glued in two old allen keys (with the bend cut off so they were just straight) to make two posts that catch the cam that cancels the indicator.
As for their placement, you could probably work it out by comparing the hub to the plastic stock part, which is how I assume Perry did it.
Unfortunately I didn't take any pics of the conversion before I fitted the hub  s:( :( s:(

I've got it all installed.  It wasn't nearly as hard as i thought it was going to be.

What colour wire did you tap for the horn?

I got it through Formula 1 in Brands Hatch.  It is a mix between the momo millenium and momo race.

That looks nice Adam. As for the horn, I just stripped some wire back from the whhel end and pushed it into the stock connector (yellow IIRC) until it worked!
