Quote from: "jvanzyl"what's the "door relief" ?

Miles said the same thing... it WOULD allow me to have Orange calipers though... hmmm.. I just don't know if I could handle blue wheels...
Looking from the bottom of the door up, where there's the defined bend in the steel up to the top of the curve, make that blue into the mouth of the scoop. I've been looking at various colour schemes using the natural curves and creases but spent enough money on it lately as it is![emoji38]

StuC was talking about this year's ago.
I've seen one or two tastefully done, filling in the reliefs on the bonnet, boot and bumpers etc but you need a good paint shop or not be too fussed about masking lines or vinyl edges etc.

ahh... ok I gotcha..
Yeah... I'm going to have to think about that!

I've got so much I need to do that it'll take me a while to get round to it.

Back to the other question - how do you stick these things on with a mind to be able to remove them at a later date if necessary?

Good stuff

Cool thanks! How good is it with the car been washed etc.. do I need to keep checking on it? I'm a bit concerned that  at higher speeds the wind might be pulling at it?

I'm pretty sure we did some decal mockups a couple years back. Somewhere on here. One of them was this coloured side vent and "swoop" following the door relief

How wide is the lip that you would put the tape on?

I have used that tape on badges and it has been good but as you say, this is a scoop!

If the lip is wide enough it would be better to use two separate thinner strips instead of one wider one as you may get a bit of warning if the outer one gives up.

I dont think I would want to see one of my scoops blowing off down the motorway though!

I would use tigerseal if I was doing it as you may be able to remove them if you really had to.

(Silver, not blue, obviously...).

I used tigerseal on Helen's but bear one thing in mind... Don't park your car under trees anymore because tigersealing those vents on spells the end of drain cleaning

Cleaning the drains is something I'm a bit concerned about... however I'm thinking that with the inner(normal vent cover) left off - maybe I can fashion a bit of wire poking stick that I can use to wiggle into the drain?

Alternatively I could leave something inside (with one end already in the drain) and then put some kind of clip holder on the inside of the vent so that it holds it still and doesn't rattle... Then when I want to clean the drains I just need to get hold of the aforementioned pre-inserted stick and wiggle it about a bit?

I'm liking the idea of tigerseal.. I assume removal is done via a lengthy process involving silicone removal gel or something?

Quote from: "budfox"Sorry, but I don't like them at all. Stick to silver would be my suggestion.

Thanks hey - I do appreciate the honest opinion!

So you reckon something like this?

I actually like how they are on standard cars. It's very rare for me to see a modification from standard that I genuinely believe makes any car look better.

The recent exception was a thread on here where someone added a superb body kit to a blue car. It looked sublime.

Alternatively fasten a length of "guide tube" to slide your pokey stick in when required...

Personally I'm not keen either in blue they're a bit to "look at me I'm modified" and in silver they nearly hide the side vents altogether, they.'re one of my favourite features with it being an MR car.

An alternative more subtle way to accentuate the vent would be a colour change of the standard insert.

As ever though, your car, your rules it would be boring if we all liked the same thing!

Thanks everyone for your candid view!  :-) :-) :-)

Brief update is that in the words of Jeremy Clarkson - "I have all of a sudden found myself "less busy"". So I shall hopefully find some time to do some "cheap" jobs on the car! Please do submit your ideas below as to what can be done cheaply and that I'm guessing just requires elbow grease!

Right! Time for an update - last night I managed to fit the new rocker cover gasket - I'm hoping the new PCV valve from TCB parts will arrive soon as well so that I can do that. Anyway, please see the below guide and photos:

To start with, disconnect the battery & remove the rear cross brace and the plastic cover:

Work around the rocker cover undoing all of the bolts as well the ones around the ignition coils - I think it's best to unplug the wires from the ignition coils. Being sure to unclip the O2 sensor cable and the retaining clip on the right hand side of the engine.

Don't forget to the two nuts on the top left and top right, and also unclip the two hoses on the left and the top left sides

Lift the cover off and give it a clean up:

Then re-insert the new gasket and follow the tightening process as described by Toyota which basically says the two middle bolts with the washers should be 9Nm and all the others should be 11Nm. Start with the middle two and the work outwards.

Don't rest your tools on the exhaust heat shield! Otherwise this will happen:

Then close everything up- re-attach the hoses and do the cross brace-up at 39Nm.

Nice! Don't suppose you have that with the c one side scoops do you?

Nope, sorry. I never completed this as a project. It was quite tricky to get a repeatable pattern from a 3d shape into 2d.

I have had my photoshop taken away too. So I am not able to mock it up for you.  s:-( :-( s:-(

Evening folks- so bit of update for me personally I guess!
The great news is that I have a job! Hooray!
It doesn't pay as much as the old one- but I'm hoping it'll be better in terms of quality of life etc
Obviously this does mean that there will be no money for the car, but it just means I'll have to get really good at doing everything myself!
