Key Conundrum

When I bought my 2 it only came with one key. It locks and unlocks the car via the button on the key and it obviously starts and all seems well...that is until I went to use it to lock the glove box, the storage boxes behind the seats and the lock for the fuel and rear boot lid of which it fits none of them...the key just seems too big.

Obviously I'd like to get another key from Toyota but I'm now concerned that the key will probably fit all the other ancillary locks but not the ignition as I'm suspecting that it's been changed.

What do you think has happened here?

Probably is as you guess changed ignition barrel.
Only other scenario is if someones had a valet key cut in a black housing (then lost the valet key).
I think the valet key also does the door. so I your key also does then door then bet on it being valet key.

You can get your key blade code from toyota then get a key cut from that (£12 from ebay) and transplant your internals inot the new key. I had this exact same problem. Somebody had used the valet key to cut a new key and I couldn't lock anything.
New little car to follow soon

Ex 2zz by Rogue. Se7en cams. BMC CDA. Competion clutches lightened flywheel, Megillian Racing Exhaust. TRD sportivo suspension and ARB\'s. TRD braces. TRD quick shift. TRD dash kit, Matts brace. Getting there but not sure when it will stop!

I think the key and the ignition barrel have been changed hence the key only fitting the ignition barrel. It doesn't even fit the door.
I spoke with Toyota and the simple solution was to have a new ignition barrel linked to the chassis number and have two new keys and hey presto two keys that fit everything...unfortunately they don't supply them for the Roadster anymore so I'm now having to look at salvage locks and change every single one of them. I thought I'd give you an update...the key I have only fits the ignition barrel and it remotely unlocks the doors. I've chatted with Mr T and the only real solution is a salvage set of locks with barrel and matching ECU.
I contacted Dean at MR2 Rutland who was mega helpful and has sourced all of the above with 3 keys (including the grey valet key) £70 including delivery. This is the same guy I bought my brand new looking spacesaver wheel from. I can highly recommend him. If anyone wants his number I can message it to you as I'm guessing I'm not allowed to post it. But honestly I chatted with Dean for ages on the phone and there's nothing that he can't supply for all of us 2 addicts. [emoji846]

Yup, Dean is on the MR2 Facebook page. I've had something from him before (can't remember what).
