Hi all,

Just wondering where these cars usually rust, I know the rear subframe can rust, guessing the usual places such as wheel arches as well?

none really.
springs/shocks/hub and disk dust cover can get a bit messy, the cover often falling off altogether.
in the front the radiator and abs mounting brackets rust apart but are also easily replaced.
heard of a few sumps getting a bit nasty, but they're cheap aswell.
the body panels are easily changed so can't see anyone bothering to weld or fill them.

Agreed about the radiator mounts. Also when removing the front plastic from the wheel well mine has a few patches of surface corrosion beginning to appear on much of the steel.  A job for the summer is going to be to strip as much out from that area before making good and giving it all plenty of layers of good quality paint.

Thanks guys, I have had a few older cars and have always been worried about rust especially with the fact that the roadster isn't a new car anymore - good to know that the parts the usually rust are easily sorted.

Power steering pipes can get a bit rusty too and be costly to replace so are worth a bit of time to preserve.
Lower steering UJ too, give it some TLC and a bit of grease.

Yup, those are on my list too, UJ looks like it's come from a 1980's flake ad, and my PS pipes are leaking.

worth noting that the ABS brackets are pretty expensive from the dealers and on most cars are now showing their age.
There was someone who was looking at creating a replacement part though.

On mine the body around front mounting points of the rear suspension, just in front of the rear wheels will be the first problem area, I presume getting salt splashed from the rear wheels.  And pretty much all exhaust fastenings!

Mines got some bubbling in front of the rear wheels and a comment on my last 2 MOTs about my "rusty underbody" so I went over the frunk area and underneath with some anti rust and mostly matched rattle can, it's not the prettiest job, but it's a lot less rusty!

A yearly service type trip up to Steve@D1 would sort it all out in one go.   :-) :-) :-)
