Oil consumption. What oil consumption?

Since joining the forum, for general background I've read many of the topics, and as a previous owner of two new Honda S2000s, the subject of oil piqued my interest, especially the requirement to check the oil level very regularly. As of yesterday evening I've covered a little over 3,000 miles since purchasing the my MR2 in mid-May, and my oil level remains pretty much at the same as it was when I checked it upon purchase. I'm also surprised how clean it is given the type of use the car has had.

I shall continue to monitor the oil level, but will revert to my normal checking schedule of once a month, rather than at every fuel fill.

It is sometimes pot luck, you might have an engine that has the revised pistons or has been serviced slightly differently, for my car it doesn't seem to use any oil in normal use day to day but it might have used a bit when racing at higher RPMs - some are fine but some are bad.

They are not all prone to high usage, if it's had regular servicing on time then that helps greatly

The car is low mileage, and is still less than 30k - and there's a full, and I mean full, Toyota service history, with receipts for servicing every year.

Perhaps the MR2 Roadster is one car that does benefit from dealer servicing?!

I wouldn't think so. I think the evidence is that main dealers are no more reliable than anyone else at actually carrying out the tasks specified for each service.
1zz just needs regular oil changes with decent oil and a little luck. Doesn't matter who does it.

Pretty sure if all 1zz engines had 3k oil changes the stuck rings would rarely happen.

My car has done 63k miles & I bought it new from Hamer Toyota in Burton On Trent in June 2004.  It has had a Toyota service & oil change every year (apart from 2 years when Matt Performance Lee serviced it) and I have NEVER had to top up the oil - it does not users drop   s:D :D s:D    s:bowdown:  s:bowdown:

As others have noted.
Simple basic maintenance is key.

Nope.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Mark.
the take away from the above is.
there is a loved MR2 that does not burn oil.
That alone gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

That frequency of servicing would result in greater oil consumption than an RGV250 I owned!

Regular servicing is the key, mine has covered 37000 miles now and has been serviced each year and doesn't use a drop between each service.
Long may it continue.

It's when it uses more oil than an rx8 that we should all worry, come to think about it or as much petrol.

I owned an RX8 R3 for a while; its oil consumption was negligible. The fuel consumption was another matter...

Mine now has 73000 miles and does not use a drop of oil. I can check the oil just before it goes for its annual service and the oil looks as clean as it did the first time I check after a service. It's been serviced every year since new at a Toyota main dealer.
