Exhausts - routing and bike cans

Hi all,

Just wanted to start this thread to ask about exhausts, I currently have some TTE twins which do sound great but will be looking to change them out at some point to something lighter and simpler in terms of routing, I will also go turbo at some point so tidying up the exhaust is on the list to make space for other pipework back there.

I will look to retain the stock cat so really just looking at options post cat - I am thinking of simply running to a smaller backbox with single tip although I thought I would also ask if anyone has run any of the bike cans on the car like some kit cars do.

Not looking for a loud exhaust, just looking for lower restriction in terms of gas flow so a smaller resonator with a single tip might be the way forward - what is everyones thoughts on the matter?

On the supercharger car, i had to route around the subframe, as the supercharger was where the manifold would normally be.  That meant the big can had to go.  This is what I ended up with.  (Photo taken before all the sealant was cleaned off!)

Thanks for that, yeah I was thinking of a routing like that, the OEM backbox is massive, the TTE backbox is slightly smaller but has the twin exits which again takes up a fair bit of space - was a faff to get to the cat O2 bung!

Thinking of getting the same sort of setup as yourself but might run a cylinder backbox rather than the larger oval sort, need to measure up the size etc to see what off the shelf silencers there are.

I got my exhaust stuff from Profusion.  Big range.

Edit:  I went with the oval for maximum silencing.  Still a little loud for my taste, but not as loud as many I've heard.

Thanks for the tip on Profusion, looks like they have loads of supplies, might be able to make up my own system with the various bends!

The service is pretty good.  Check and double check exactly what you're ordering.  I got one bit wrong and they didn't pick it up (diameter).  We made everything from the manifold on, including cat.

A single resonator could be very loud, I ended up running 2 in series when I was 1.8 NA, still do now. Pipe run was one can above the other with a U bend at the O/S end. Still running similar now, but 3" diameter.
Ex 2GR-FE roadster. Sold it. Idiot.  Now Jaguar F-Type P450 75 Edition RWD. Officially over by the bins.

Sounds a good idea, will look into that, need to measure up the space back there to see where I am going to route the pipework, there is actually quite a bit of space to either side of the exhaust inside the rear bumper it seems.

Is that mid pipe going to be a switchable exhaust valve? Very cool   s8) 8) s8)

The fat bit is a 200Cel Cat
so its basically manifold, cat, twin centre exit pipes
Still have Stock cat & System just in case its too loud.  But I think with the turbo it should be about bearable

This is what I ended up doing on my turbo, a sports cat followed by a small silencer then a y branch to the large oval silencer and the butterfly valve to the second exhaust. The butterfly is controlled by the ECU when MAP pressure is above or below set values it opens, nice and sporty but bearable for cruising then noisy for acceleration and - for the boy racer in me - on overrun   s:D :D s:D

All the parts came from Profusion and seem to be good quality, no rust yet!

Hi peps just munching around the idea of a exhaust system for my 2 I want some with a bit more sound but not to much. I guess it has the original one on it being a 2006. I don't know how long they last. Got a price from a place in Hull there expensive. I wouldnt mind even second hand.
Thanks

Oh right, it goes straight to the pipes after the cat, that's gonna be LOUD! I thought the two pipes from the cat was one to the diverter and one to the normal exhaust.

After the power enterprise bits mines got a big Hayward and Scott silencer and I made my own decat pipe, it's not very loud, sounds nice, pops and bangs rally style now and then with the cat gone too.

I really like my Hayward and Scott for the same reasons.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
