I've a Roadster, bought from a main dealer in May 2003. I've had  to  replace (under warranty)  my rear lights three times due to a condensation problem. I find the car great fun, responsive/qucik etc, but the fault still exists so i'm a bit p----ed off. Has anyone else had similar problems?? [/b]

yep, got to take mine in soon for the same, ment to be pretty common on the fronts although i've not suffered from that. Last i heard, Mr.T is ment to have bought out a new seal kit for them, try doing a search i'm sure it's been discussed before

It's common mate, were on our second rears now and this is still misting up, replaced the alloys as well, looked at them today and "surpris, surprise" bubbling again...  s:( :( s:(

Mr replacement rears were worse than the ones that came off. In time they seem to have sorted themselves out and have been relatively clear for the last six months   s:P :P s:P

I noticed condensation in my nearside rear lights yesterday for the first time, admittedly it was not the best of conditions - cold temperature with sun hitting them fair and square. That cluster has been taken out to fit the inlet pipe, could I have disturbed some seals?

Going to keep an eye on it now, see if it repeats, and also watch offside. That by the way was in shadow and had no problem.

Both my rears mist up. I know its not ideal and shouldn't happen, but is it a real problem?

Washed the car today, and noticed a bit of condensation in the rear nearside light cluster. Also a few very small blisters have appeared on the alloys.
Hey! I really feel like part of the club now!

Yeh I have the blisters too, and the condensation in the front lights. Mine is being done this week under warranty.

Now the man that picked mine up who was from toyota was quite an old guy, and he said the misting happens all the time, but not to quote him on that! Nice....

I was also warned by him that it happens all the time, as dealers just take them off and dry them, instead of actually replacing them.....

What are the blisters from?

I gave up worrying about the misting lights about 4 days after I brought the car... that was 18 months ago, and I still can't be arsed to get them changed. Out of all the things that annoy me about the '2, that's right at the very bottom.

And the replacements end up doing exactly the same again; only worth changing if you have a scratch on it or something  s:wink:  s:wink:

My fronts mist up slightly, so I will probably wait until just before the warranty out and get these swapped - there are a few stone chips on them too!

Has anyone a picture of a bubbling alloy. I am curious what to look for.

Stu

I've always wondered what to look for, is it the raised bits round the rims ie presumably where welds have gone wrong?

I see very nice MR2 thingies on the brakes, but the problem part with the alloys are not very clear I think.

Hi Roger,

yeah looking at the photo there is some on the rim of that alloy, when i had mine though it was on the sharp edges of the spokes though, there was a collection of bubbles approx 1-3mm in diameter, i'll try and find some more picture for you

The rusting on the brakes itself is something I also have, but after a short run with a few firm brake movements, they are clean again. So I think this is normal.

After a longer period without using the MR2, I had once that the brakes appeared to be rusted to the brakediscs. So when I moved the car it made a reasonably loud "bang". But no problems whatsoever afterwards.
