Well after a long wait I pick a 2003 silver dream machine up Sunday.
All nice & standard with the cloth red seats and LCD standard cd/ cassette radio .
Now a list of things I know it needs ____rear shocks leaking slightly
                                                                      Head lights De glazing
it's had new brakes for the MOT but they could be better
                                                                      All fluids replacing
                                                                     Plugs ,fillters,
                                                                      Replacement soft top
Driver's seat back fixing as it's worn through on the bolster near door
Hud drain channels clearing behind side vents (water in luggage storage)
                                                                    Rocker cover gasket replacement
Is there anything else I could do  that's quick cheap essential to keep it running on top form????
I give full run down Monday only 2 sleeps to go

Welcome. Have you had a peek at the buyers guide in the New members thread? That covers the strong and weak points of the car that are worth looking at.

A good service as you say is a great start. Clean the MAF and reset the ecu.
Check the tyres. All the right size and of a good make?
Subframe OK?
Steering universal joint ok?
...neutiquam erro.

Congratulations.

Rocker cover gasket replacing, if that's because of a suspected oil leak, are you sure the 'O' ring from the chain tensioner isn't the culprit?

I thought mine was a rocker cover gasket, found it was the tensioner O ring as they seem a common failure for oil leaks on that side - my rocker cover gasket was  ok at 175k miles.

Update
Right had the car less than 24hrs and already completed 2 small jobs
Before driving the car 200 miles home I stopped at a garage to fill up and poped in
A top quality fuel system cleaner ..
2nd (very satisfying) total clean of the soft top drain and collection bags and then back down the
M6 to collect a very good 2nd hand roof .
Found to be blocking the near side drain a lady's 4foot long  scalf along with the classic block drain smell
Next job a good check of rear cross member and kick plates and carpet pulled up to check inner sill / floor
The car drove very well on the way back for a 110k miles motor

Welcome! Never put anything on the parcel shelf that's small and thin enough to disappear![emoji23] Join the list of people who've bought 2s and found a previous owners lost clothes.
The seat backs are interchangeable if you want a temporary fix to prevent further wear, it would put the driver's side wear on the inside of the passenger seat, I did it with mine just to stretch the life of it.
As mentioned earlier, the tensioner o rings are a weak spot, I did mine straight away after buying it but I think I might've mullered the new one fitting it as I think mine's leaking again..

Tendonitis NOS
A routine oil change resulted in the above condition
Everything go good until I tried to remove oil filter and my right wrist made a loud crack, finished the job just with a lump
the size of a golf ball on my wrist .A trip to Oldham  A&E saw me out of action for a few days
Did manage to fit the new soft top remove ringing wet carpet replace gromits in floor, clean off and paint some
surface rust under carpet however my arm  thinks It was once attached to Mr Larry grayson
writing this is hard so I'm off to convalesce more soon (shut that door)

Perhaps an idea for a new thread - service injuries!

I also was wounded by last winter's oil filter change, 3 months of nagging tennis elbow

I punched the driveway with full body force once. Thankfully got away with scrapes and bruising. Also bruise on my forehead from dropping tools on my own face while underneath. Who'd have thought calliper slider bolts could be so vicious?

Cut my leg open and ruined a brand new pair of jeans fitting a head unit on my first 2.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
