Seafoam

My 6 monthly oil change is coming up in the next week or 2...
I have noticed dark deposits on the Cam on previous changes, across the tops of the brackets etc. Also, my oil goes very dark very quickly, it doesn't look so much burned as dirty, and there is no smell of burned oil. The car doesn't use oil unless it is due for its change, and the oil has become "tired". I only use good synthetic oil, usually buy as a service kit from my local Mr T when I get the filters.
I have seen comments about Seafoam, and its usefulness in cleaning the inside of the engine. But people usually talk about using it to clean the fuel side of things. I haven't managed to find a definitive answer about the oil system.
So, my question is: has anyone used Seafoam, purely for the oil, and is it any good? Is it likely to help with the black, sooty, deposits in my engine, and oil getting dirty etc?
As always, thanks in advance for opinions and help.  :notworthy:

I've used it in the past.  I've also used Forte flush, which gave slightly better results.  I've dismantled one engine that had been Forte flushed and it was very clean.

You say it uses oil when it's due for a change?  Does that mean, it does use some oil?  'cos mucky oil is usually associated with sticky oil control rings and/or tired valve seals.

Anyway.  Forte flush:  Put it in before you change the oil and filter.  Follow instructions to the letter.  Have a bucket ready to catch the oil, as it will be very thin and come out in a big hurry.

I hope it improves things, but it may not...

I am currently running some in the oil at the moment, need to put more miles on it but the oil is certainly darker than before so it is pulling something out of the engine.

I haven't heard of Forte Flush. I'll  certainly look into that one. Thanks.

What sort of driving do you do?

Daily driver, mostly B road with a little dual carriageway. Spirited but not mad driving.

As a quick follow-up for anyone who wants to know:
I had some weird black stuff on top of my rockers, never worked out what it was or how it got there. Also, had a rattle at first start-up (quickly disappeared by the ed of the road, just a blocked up non-return valve sort of noise, like the old Vauxhall classic problem).  :-\
Ran Forte Flush in the engine for 30 minutes per instructions, at tick over.
Oil came out looking like black paint, nasty rattle at start up has disappeared, weird black stuff on rockers (or whatever they're called these days) has pretty much all gone.  ;D
My oil was also going black almost as soon as I'd replaced it before, this has also seems to be cured.  :))
Due to change oil in swmbo's Corsa soon, and I have spare oil, so I may get another filter and run some more flush through mine, to see if there's any further improvement.  :-\
Pretty much a miracle solution as far as I am concerned, my thanks to Carolyn for the suggestion  :notworthy:
