Garage not handing back my old calipers???

I am having all four calipers replaced and the garage are now stating that I cannot have my old calipers back... they can show me, but that is it. If I want them back I would have to pay £50 each!

Is this just total bull for them to make money or is there some sort of legal I can spout towards them, as from my point of view - they belong to me?

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

I would like to be well informed before I go back to the garage...

Could be that they need to send your old Calipers back.
Quite often these type of parts are on an exchange basis

Agreed.
Usually supplied on a return basis.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

I'd agree, worth checking what was agreed initially.

Some refurb calipers require an exchange - eg you send them the old ones for them to refurb, I avoided this when buying a set of rear calipers for mine by making sure it was an outright price and didn't have any sort of exchange on them. How much are they quoting for each caliper?

Nothing was agreed ie exchange or return basis, this is why I was asking advice. These are brand new calipers not refurbed or on an exchange basis.

Job is now pulled from this garage and passed onto another...

Thank you.

Unless otherwise agreed.  All parts removed from a car under repair are the property of the car's owner and should be returned if requested.
This is so the work 'done' can be double checked.
It's the law.
A garage who doesn't want to do that, is breaking the law and best avoided.  If we still had a functioning Trading Standards system (which we don't) this should be reported.

Very common for parts like this and alternators to be on an exchange program to be honest

Thanks for your comments, changed garage as the problem was the new calipers were not on an exchange basis - garage were just being a total pain in the backside! They lost out...

All smiles as all four calipers replaced,  :D  new Rota wheels fitted and now crying in my coffee at the cost lol.
