Call the midlife!

I'm getting conflicting results looking at reference material, does the window glass have to come out to remove the mirrors please?
It's been suggested you can just remove the door cards etc and wind the window down out of the way.

You don't need to remove the glass. Just the door cards.

Just looked quickly in the workshop manual. Nothing specific on the mirrors but the exploded diagram shows the mirror assembly with two bolts that would fix it into the door.  Seems like you could take the whole thing off by removing the door card, dropping the window and getting to it from the underside. Diagram also shows the wire feeding it, so remember to disconnect that.

Haven't done this in practice though, just my thoughts on what I can see!
Today

Yeah, those were my thoughts when looking at some diagrams but then I read the accompanying instructions and it said to remove the glass before removing the mirror. But I'm not entirely sure they aren't instructions for totally stripping the door, rather than just removing the mirror.
Cheers though.

Exactly that. No glass removal required. Just need to peel back the plastic membrane that's under the door card.

It's not a hard job but IIRC there's a detailed how to on here somewhere. With a look as there's a couple of bits that's easier to know in advance to avoid snapping clips etc.

I've had a look but got so far down the "how tos" and it wouldn't load anymore up. I had the doorcards off the other weekend for something else and didn't think to look at the mirrors. No bother, it'll keep, I've got to paint the spare set first anyway but there's a dent in the top of the door panel I want to try and push out too and the only way to get behind it is through the mirror hole.

Thanks for that.
It was in it LAST Ding Day but didn't have the time to strip the door down for him to fettle it, how hard can it be to shove a bent stick in the hole and wiggle it?

That's all he did to mine when I Had mine done. He just wiggles it professionally.
(There's a joke in there somewhere)

Will have to nab him this year as there's quite a few little dings from squeezing past it in the garage whilst doing work :(

I know the feeling, I was laid half under mine at the weekend fitting the new arms and kicked the wheel I'd left stood at the side like a dumbass. Thankfully it just made a lot of noise bouncing off the rear quarter panel!
The crease in the top of the door was there when I bought it, I think someone has hit the mirror or tried to fold it and flexed the panel in, there'll be just enough tension to hold the curve until it gets popped from behind.

I'm tempted just to leave it, it adds character, mind you I don't think there's a single panel that doesn't have some character to it![emoji23]
