Injector Grommets

Hi all,

I removed my injector rail to investigate a running issue a few months ago. When I removed the rail and injectors, three of the injectors came out with small black caps on them as per the photo;

Whereas one of them came out without the cap but with a large rubber grommet still attached. Removing the grommet from the injector left it with no black cap;

I'm wondering why this one injector didn't have a cap (you wouldn't be able to seat it in the grommet if it did) and basically what am I missing/what's wrong?

Sorry if it's obvious - fuel injectors are not something I've dabbled with in the past!

Any help greatly appreciated!

All four will have the rubber grommets it's just only one pulled out site the injector

If you get some snip nose you'll pull the others out from the head.

With regards the black cap I can only assume it's fallen into the cylinder ?

Yes, the grommet came out with the injector - the weird thing is that the cap couldn't have wandered off while the grommet remained in place on the injector. Also, I'm not sure the grommet would fit over the injector if the cap was on there?!

Much weirdness!

Much weirdness that I think i may have found an explanation for...

I've just had a leaf through the (thankfully generous) service history and found that it had a new injector on cylinder 3 10 years ago, which may explain the lack of the cap (and why the injector rail wasn't located on the spacers properly when i removed it.

Sooooo.... one last question. Is it worth replacing the rubber grommets in the head or shall I stop faffing about and refit it all?

Carolyn

If the grommets are still pliable, re-use.  If not, replace.
