My poor baby was stolen last night more importantly they stole both sets of keys.

What's my best options on getting this sorted. The police have got a locksmith to get into the car. I have spare Keys but for a different vehicle.

Can I get new keys made from chassis number or any security numbers?

Or will I have to replace Ecu, barrel, door locks etc.

Thanks in advance guys.

I'd normally search this first but I just haven't got the time at the moment. I just need a means of getting the car back from the recovery site.

Oh man that's shit.

So, you mention recovery site.. So you know where it is?

As for the keys.. That's going to be tricky. Toyota are going to be your best (and expensive) bet.

I hope you get it back and it's fine.
...neutiquam erro.

Call the midlife!

Wouldn't it be cheaper to get a new ECU and keys from Rutland or similar? Or a member who has recently stripped a spare car?

I've just spoke to the recovery site and it's got some damage on the front bumper but i guess I'll just have to see.

I have, Ecu, barrels and keys in the garage.

Can I just swap them out?

I'll speak to Toyota and see what the crack is.

Remember, you only need to do the ECU and ignition barrel to get it home. You can do the door locks later.

Oh and quick question - were both keys on the same key ring or did they search the house for both sets?

Getting the ecu/transponder and keys replaced under insurance will very likely lead to a write-off.
Aside from the fact that getting a new ECU is entirely wasted on Dan's car as it has the standalone.

An easy out, Dan, would be to source a JDM ecu and just do away with the whole immobiliser. Just replace ecu and be done with it. Not ideal for security but... Didn't really help this time either...

That's very true. Guess they had already been reported to the insurance, so why not go through them? (But I admit its quicker to do it yourself!!!)

The other car to sort is far more expensive. I have all of the spare parts to fix this one so it would be quicker to get roxy back on the road myself I think.

Thanks for the ignition and ecu tip. Didn't think of that.

If memory serves me correctly Toyota can make a key from your chassis number but it's not cheap.
I got a full set from Rutland for less than a hundred. It's a bit of work to fit the door locks and the ignition barrel but much cheaper than buying a new key

If you decide to go for an MR S ECU, try Dean at Rutland.

If no go, I've got one, which you can have,

If you use a new ECU you will avoid the risk of them coming back with the keys again to have another go.

As for getting replacement keys, Toyota can tell you the key code number from their records.  I thought that was free but they tried to charge £20 for the code - until I decided to just leave and then it was passed over free on a business card (!).  With a code you can get a key cut from scratch on the bay of e's.  Add a transponder body and full steam ahead for the Toyota dances which are well documented here.  From my experience, key from code around £15, transpnder around £25.

That's really useful.  Thank you. I think I'll replace out of principle but it's really good to know. :)

Dan have you considered all the other locks on the car? Or happy to not use them?

I wouldn't give a monkeys as I never use the rear bin, glove box or fuel cap/engine bay lock.

What's the process on removing the ignition barrel? How long we talking?
Looks like I'm gonna have to do the work in the impound you see.

It's not too bad ...you'll need to pull off the binnacle cover and undo the cowling to expose the barrel then using a centre punch and hammer you need to smack the shear bolt to get it started. Once you start it off you can undo it with your fingers. I didn't use new shear bolts to attach the new barrel but instead I used some m8 or m10 bolts if I remember correctly
