Okay - I think I found the source for the Garage59 manifolds (part numbers from Unilite match), but they only do SS201 in small orders or you have to 30+ to get SS304....

https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/For-T-oyota-MR-2-MRS_60664564818.html

I've also found these:

Any opinions? Worth a punt?

At least the second one quotes the thickness of the walls.. I guess you could get a group buy together - I think there would be fair interest given the price, it's just a bit of an admin bore.

I don't like the look of the length of the O2 sensor bosses.  I've seen some of these that were very poorly finished inside.

The Toyosport seems to be available again.  Proven quality.

Cheaper isn't always better :D In fact, it only rarely is!

Toyo is tried and trusted (mostly). Only gripe I have is that the exhaust side flange steel rusts, and water sits nicely on it. Minor gripe though really.

What you REALLY want is a zero mated to a decat topped off with a cobra exhaust... sounds fun!

Knowing how loud mine is, that must be rather noisy

Well... you know how it sounds when you're in a tunnel going full pelt on a normal setup and you smile cos it's fun?
It's like that all the time except you don't need a tunnel... mwahaha!

Maybe we'll do a sound test at tonights meet - be interesting to see what it sounds like when someone else revs it.

Mine only has a motorcycle ´damper´ and most lilely louder still yet how loud it soúnds depends on your right foot. You´re not supposed to put the foot down in built up areas nor with traffic so who cares if it´s loud when you cán; there will be hardly anyone about!

Quote from: mr2noob on November 18, 2019, 13:25Just to let you know, guys, I was in contact with the alibaba seller, they say delivery is 30-40 USD and freight by air is 100 usd.

Which basically makes Toyosports much better option.

Thanks for the responses (to all) and yes, I'd have to agree that a proven manifold at as similar price seems MUCH more sensible!

Quote from: mr2noob on November 21, 2019, 22:28So, with a completely stock exhaust system, is there any point getting the Toyosport over just taking off the stock manifold and bashing the cats out and then putting it back?

I believe Petrus wrote on this a while back. Something about the length of your header being linked to the length of pipe before it gets to a cavity (gutted precats). anecdotal evidence suggests slightly improved torque....

What else would I need?

20m of heatshield webbing? (two packs of THIS)
Two of the post-cat lambda sensors (with the longer lead)?
Anything else?

One pack will be enough.  Standard length sensors fit fine.  Wrap it on the bench.

Quick edit:  Get genuine OEM crush ring gaskets.  All the others are rubbish.

Part numbers?

Any recommended suppliers to guarantee it's genuine?

Welcome to the club.
Thread on here somewhere, relating exactly to  that. Think most have spent the purchase price at least once some more than once. Me included.

That said, the difference is "wanting" to spend on it, rather than "having" to. Massive difference.

To me, the whole driving thing, MR2 or otherwise, I view as a hobby. Therefore cost takes a much smaller seat at the table of priorities.

I said to a fishyperson, golfist and soccer fan, I could save your thousands of pounds a year. They said how? I said don't do it.
For the life of me, I can see no reason to sit on bank throwing fish food in to the river at great expense. But people do.
They still have to put fuel in their tank, to get to where, they do, what they do.

The fishyperson I know, their kit has cost more than my 2.

I must be one of the few who went the other way, I have original headers (no pre cats) and a full decat system.

I'm very interested in getting one of these. Is it really necessary to wrap it up? Such a shame to hide it from sight

They don't stay shiny very long.

Wrapping isn't utterly required.  BUT it does replace the function of the heat-shield, keeping the manifold gases hotter and speeding them down the exhaust and keeping the engine compartment cooler.  A hot engine compartment allows more heat-soak into the inlet tract and that will have a small negative effect on performance.
I'm of the wrapping persuasion myself.  I have had a well-used toysport develop a crack (it was on my car when I bought it, several years ago).  I welded it up and it's still going.

If you want one jump on it.  They are only made in small batches and then they're out of stock for months.
