Morning everbody,
Just fitted a 2nd hand cat yestarday just to prove if mine had failed or not, anyway got to the final moments before a testrun and remembered i hadnt put the last sensor back in only to find the 2nd hand cat aint got no hole for it.. ? spoke to Toyota (i dont know why i bother) and they were confused.
Took it for a test run anyway and every thing is great ,it`s got all the power back and the exhuast sounds sweet again.
Does anyone know what the final sensor is for and how detremantal it is to the running of a uk car as i believe that this is a import cat.
Also the engine warning light came on just as i was getting home after about 30mins of driving, could this be showing the sensor malfunction ?

The 3rd O2 is to monitor the efficiency of the cat. As you have a Jap spec cat, as you point out there is no provision for the sensor. The CEL you are getting is undoubtedly because the sensor is missing. You have two options: Have a sensor boss welded to the exhaust post cat, or get an O2 conditioner that will fool the ECU into thinking it's there.

I'm not sure where to source a conditioner over here, PPE sell them (not sure how much seperately though), see here.
The easiest and cheapest option would be the boss - go find a local exhaust specialist, and all they have to do is drill a hole in the pipe, and weld a nut on (they may have a proper boss) that will accept the sensor screwed into it - it's that simple.

Hi mate,

I checked the oher CATs I had, but both of those are also J-Specs.  I would say the easiest resolve would be to get a bung welded (keep your old CAT for that).

Where are you located again?  I have someone at Brands Hatch who can do it while you wait.  I'll cover the charge of course which should only be £10.

Just thought I'd say - now that's what I call customer service!
