Any good deals around for a front pair, does anyone know? I was quoted £275 per side including labour I would imagine! Phew :o

Hi Rob, I just asked for a quote for Shocks so I'm not sure, he didn't mention any other bits.  :(

All being well mine are being fitted next Friday, the garage has quoted me £200 to fit my parts which includes everything new required per corner.

04/12/21   Rear KYB Shocks   AGR ebay           £144.22
04/12/21   Front KYB Shocks   AGR ebay   £182.69
13/12/21   Springs Rubbers etc   TCBP           £229.20
31/01/22   Drop links   eBay                   £39.99

Total for parts £596 plus £200 fitting=£796 which averages out at £199 per corner.
Say it with love, say it with flowers but never, never, say it in writing.

When there are ebay offers on (there was a 20% earlier this week) shocks are not over £70 & £90.

puma2

:) just for reference  i have recently brought   shocks all 4 only form Parts in Motion they are on the bay as well as the own web site for less than £300.

not sure if that helps but it gives you a thought.

Chilli Girl

Thanks @puma2 - I've just signed up with them thanks for recommending. Shame they arn't open today as I'm just up the road from Exeter.  Anyhow, I've messaged them and see their KYB's are around the £80 each mark.  ;D

+1 for Parts in Motion. Bought a set in January. £290 at the time.

Rear Left https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/233508783708
Rear Right https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/233584700570
Front Left https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/233585002292
Front Right https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/334397363715

Tad more pricey now but still a grand deal.

My front topmounts were shot from 15 years of damp storage  :-[  - got a pair of Denckermann mounts through autopartspro.co.uk They ship from Germany - not as ideal as it used to B(word). If you need a pair, I'd recommend anything other than the German-made Denckermanns. Great mounts but chocolate studs - had to replace one that got nowhere near its required torque (which is next to nothing anyway) Ar$e!

Front Bumpstops/covers (also shot) came from Mr Ben.

For completeness, pooped washers replaced with these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/293836407493

@spit

Hello to you too. Have you been in storage with your top mounts because you haven't been on here in quite a while?

spit

And hello back  ;D

:))

I do still bimble into the forum and mooch around 'cos this is still a great Club full of great folk. Tough to find stuff to say that hasn't been said though - I generally stand behind the curtain and admire all you smart folk guiding the masses :) .

The '2 and kit are still banging away at 200k miles, and the SuperStreets have been great but my back just couldn't survive another pothole. Not to mention those involuntary sphincter clenches at every speed hump!

Taller and softer is much more civilised for an old fart.

Apols for the drift Jane.

No need to apologise one bit @spit, it's nice to see you back here again and very many thanks for all the excellent info. ;D

Also used parts in motion as mentioned above for my shocks an springs, good service from them and always seem to have low prices.

Chilli Girl

Well, been in touch with Parts in Motion and despite the Bank Holiday, they answered my email within 24hrs so that's a good start and gave me prices.  They also mentioned a cheaper strut by a brand called Nappa.  Has anyone used this brand before or is it better to cough up an extra £30 for the KYB's?

I know zilch about the Nappa brand, I would personally go with the Kybs Jane

Id pay the extra £30. We know the kybs work and work well, so not worth the risk imo.

puma2

:) I believe some members have fitted Nappa that may well be KYB cheaper brand ( not sure)
but as we no that KYB work and trusted i went for the KYB :)  :)

Gaz mr-s

Napa is the brand name of numerous car parts.  Up until 18 months/2 years ago the choice was KYB or Sachs. Those were the only brands available afaik.

Now there's Napa, Ashika, Japan Parts, Monroe, & Neox.  Maybe more.

All these brands haven't coincidentally started making shocks for a 2, so it must be a shock produced by a suspension manufacturer & each of those companies putting in their own box.

MR2 Ben & TCB sell the Neox.

Joesson

Having no knowledge of the Nappa brand I looked on the www. It seems to be well presented. Also noticed that Opie oils are offering Front only, Nappa shocks and springs. The shocks are £74.50 + whatever carriage.
Of academic interest only for me as said previously I have a set of 4 KYB I bought from Parts in Motion late last year at < £300.

Topdownman

If you are changing only the fronts then probably best to stick with kybs as presumably that is what is on the back?

Although Nappa claim to match OE spec. But we likely would not mix brands of tyres front and rear.

105e

I would, i do at this time, they perform different tasks front to rear and are different sizes so i dont see different "suitable" brands are anything to worry about..

I was pretty sure my previous post would get that reaction.
Indeed, Mr T put differing width (and later diameter) tyres / wheels front and rear to steer and drive.
However, I believe the general consensus is that we don't mix brands, witness comments to new car buyers about such mixing.

Gaz mr-s

Any new strut is going to be within a small percentage of o/e specification. What we don't know is the build quality.
And it varies from owner to owner. Some folk will buy used shocks & be happy.  I've got 55k miles o/e & they are past their best.
