It also stops the doors from being unlocked from the inside so you can leave the top down

Thought that was 2 presses of the lock button on the key?

1 press sets alarm,
2 preses deadlocks doors,
3 presses disables interior microwave sensor.

I always thought it only effected the fule cap cover and the engine lid.

What he said...

Its got absolutley nothing to do with your doors. The only thing it does it lock the levers and restrict access to the engine compartment and fuel tank. Deadlocking of the doors is achieved via the central locking system, as detailed above.

Not at all.

Get out of your car, and press the lock button on your key. This locks your doors, and sets your alarm.

Press it again (within approx 3 seconds) and it applies the dead-locks. This is the same as above, but it means that the car can no longer be unlocked from the inside. So a brick through a window still wont get you full access.

Press it a 3rd time, and it will still be dealocked, but it will diable the microwave sensor inside the car. Useful if you leave the hood down, a pet inside, or if its really windy and your alarm keeps going off.

Thats all there is to it...

I tested this on my car when I first collected it, because the salesman didn't know exactly how it worked.

My car will dead lock on the first button press, I tested it with the roof and windows down.

The second press made another click from the door locks, but still didn't change the way it was locked, i.e that leaning in from the outside the doors still couldn't be opened.

3rd press does indeed knock off the microwave sensors.

Anyone know if the locking stratergy can be altered by dealers this way, I know that certain ford vehicles can be configured like this.

I'm sure it can...I used to have the 1 press=lock, 2 presses=deadlock, but when I tried some (SC?) instructions for locking/unlocking the doors when the car is running/turned off, I lost that feature and haven't gotten it back since  s:roll:  s:roll:
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.

I never turn off the interior sensor when I leave the hood down. If anyone wants to try their luck then I know the alarm will go off.

I can also trigger my alarm by pressing it a third time a little while after the second press. Can anyone else do this yet or am I still the only one with this handy crowd clearing feature?

Nope.

Sequence of button presses on mine is :
1.  locked (interior sensors on)
2.  deadlocked (sensors on)
3.  deadlocked (sensors off) - indicators stay on for about a second.

Pressing the button again toggles between 2 and 3.

think you may have a fault here Peter, don't know why its setting it off but the only thing that should go off is the interior sensor

Mine does it too..

Alarm the car, (either deadlocked or not, it makes no difference), wait a while (it's usually been a minute or more when I've done it accidentally) and hit lock again, and the alarm starts going off..

They key thing is that it doesn't do that if I simply press it four times in a row in quick succession (I don't think), only if I hit "lock" when the car has already been locked for a little while..

I seem to remember this being discussed before, and I think there was a reason for it (cant think what though) and I reckon it was a pre-03 thing.

Didnt Peter do it to scare kids away?

Anonymous

#21
It could be an attack alarm, Aftermarket alarms i've had in the past have done it. The theory being if you are jumped as you get near the car its an easy way of setting the alarm of and attracting attention. I'm going to test mine tonight, hope it does it, as said its a brilliant way of clearing kids from around your car.

Ooohhhhh  s:wink:  s:wink:

my dad was trying it on the other day, taking the mick of my "manual" roof, with his audi a4 cabriolet, turning the key in the door and putting the roof up, I just laughed and said it still takes 35 seconds, put my roof up AND down and drove off while he was still waiting   s:lol:  s:lol:
