GSB's Custom iPod Bracket

I couldnt find anything I liked the look of on the market, so I made my own...

Heres how:

Take one piece of steel...


Slice it...


Bend it...


Dice it...


File it, trim it, drill it & tap it...


Paint it and trim it in black Nylon Flock...


Remove Heater Control fascia and install...


Replace Heater controls...


Add one Dension Ice>Link Plus...


Plug in iPod and enjoy several days worth of music!!!

Exactly.

Its a black liquid adhesive that you paint onto the area you want coated, and a bottle that you squeeze to blast very fine nylon fibres onto the glue, you then let it dry, and brush away the excess fibres. It leaves a finish a little like suede.

As for the brackets, I have no plans to make them in any numbers. The time needed to make them would make them far to expensive to actually sell.

That looks really good actually. I wouldn't mind one for my iPaq...  I've spent ages trying to find something decent to no avail.

Yep.

Saw them, but didn't like them... They dont uses the screws behind the dash like my one does, instead relying on you opening the gap with wedges and using a combination of adhesiove and good luck to stick the bracket into the gap. The main reason I did'nt like it is that its just to gig and unsightly.

Ah ok, i just assumed that they used the screws because that is where my handsfree kit sits and that uses the screws.

NExt option is to unscrew the cradle and see if i can mount the ipod on that

[Edit - their instructions seem a bit dodgy; "on right side of heather assembly" (always wondered what that flowery smell was), and "reinstall components in reversed direction" (but I don't want the dash reversed) ?!?!]

I painted it before I flocked it, and frankly, it didnt look that nice. As for specs, It was all made "on the fly", without recourse to rulers etc. It was a blur of hammers, drills and files, so I have no idea of any of the measurements or angles, and cant measure them as I no longer have this one. Besides it needs a fair bit more work as its far from "user friendly" to fit. The critical measurement though, is the distance between centres of screws behind the heater panel, and the angle of the bend that brings it out though the gap in the dash. Once its out, you could bend it up and drill it in order to mount anything you like on there. Have a go yourselves, as this one only took a short while to rough out, just be sure to put some tape on the front of your heater panel to avoid scratches etc.
