what's the best? any sound clips? I'm doing a custom turbo and want to get one that is not too loud but sounds good. and does anyone know if the Apexi is adjustable? i've heard it has 3 settings.

On my mk2 Turbo I had a HKS Super Blow off Valve which was quite hissy with more a 'fttshhhhhhhhh' sound.
Upon breaking that I bought a HKS SSQV which is a high pitched whistle which I preferred.

I too would like to fit one to my MR-S Turbo but I'm really in the dark as to exactly what's involved. Have many people fitted a BOV to a mk3 Turbo I wonder?
I wonder too whether the amount of boost generated by some thing like a Power Enterprises turbo on the mk3 would sound lame exiting an aftermarket BOV.
Talking of boost levels, on my mk2 I ran 19.5 psi, on my mk3 I'm running 5-6 psi but I've some scary boost spiking to around 9psi!

I think the BOV should sound the same no matter what psi level. all it does is release air when u let off the throttle. I've heard that the HKS SS sounds like a dying seal more than a pfff. any truth to that?

I disagree. The higher the boost level upon changing gear the more air is being vented out of the BOV. There is definitely an audible change of sound when shifting at low'ish boost compared with that of a gear change on full chat.

This mk2 vid has a HKS SSQV fitted that can be heard venting. (4sec vid)

Still the best sounding BOV IMO.

fitting to a roadster is reasonably simple.

first decide if you want recirc or vent to atmos?

recirc can go post MAF and should recirc to pre-compressor

atmos can go pre MAF

as I'm sure you know both types need to be fiitted post compressor and intercooler.

I suspect teh PE will dictate which you can do, I'm not sure off hand wjhere teh MAF is mounted, which will probably be the deciding factor.

Just wondering, cause I never had one, but doesn't that require that it vents back to intake on the same side of MAF where it vents out? Basically meaning the MAF should be pre-turbo?

Cause if the MAF measures the air and you recirculate it back in front of it, isn't that basically the same as venting to atmosphere after the MAF?
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.

the BOV itself should always be as near teh throttle plate as possible.

hence post compressor.

on a recirc you vent from post compressor to post MAF pre compressor

which dictates that the MAF be precompressor which in most roadstre kits it is.

That brings up another question. Is it there to allow recirc BOV or for some other reason?

(it's in the stock location in my TS kit, after the turbo and IC...my BOV vents out)

If I had to guess, I'd say heat..

Bah, have to dive off to an interview - I'll finish my answer when I get back  s;) ;) s;)

neither of the clips work. and, isn't recirculating back in just so the sound is decreased?

And to help keep the turbo spinning.

im thinking about doing my own turbo kit, anyone have any guides / walkthroughs on the plumbing. I know probably 80% of what to do, just little things like the recirculating.

Here's the basic stuff:

Details are what makes each kit, so you have to figure them out yourself for a custom job. Good luck.
