any difference in the pipercross induction kit and the K&N panel filter apart from the price?

Yes. An induction kit replaces the OEM airbox with a high flow cone filter that is exposed to the engine bay. A panel filter simply replaces the existing OEM panel filter inside the airbox.

My personal opinion is that you won't see a massive benefit performance wise from air filter mods. There will be a definite change in sound, which to most people is a good thing. Most people recommed an Apexi, which has been tested to offer very good filtration, is a quality piece of kit and makes a good noise. If you do a search you'll find reams of posts on this topic
