My girlfriend has been told that she needs 2 new heat shields as hers have rusted beyond repair and hense the engine being extremely rattley.

Does anyone know where I can buy these heat shields from other than a Toyota main dealer/service place?

Thansk for any help.

WTB in the sales area or PM 'Jap GT300'.
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.

No pics I'm afraid....  she's just been to Riverdale Motors in East Peckham to have her 02 Sensor replaced and the engine management light switched off....  whilst she was there she asked if they could tighten up the heat shield to stop the rattling and when they looked at them they said, the shields were held on with Jubilee clips and they were rusted to nothing and also the shields had rusted far too much.

I will be having a look when I get home from work, but just incase they are right then I need to know where to get some!

Cheers for the info Tem.

Or alternatively just leave them off. I think some members have done this with no ill effects.

Which heat shields are we talking about?

The ones at the top of the engine (visible through the engine lid) on the manifold, or the ones further down the exhaust?

If it's the one off the bottom of the collector (the 2-1 join at the bottom of the manifold) then see the pics in this post.  If it's that one, then it's a weld that pops and brings on the rattling.. best fix is to remove the shield with a grinder  s;) ;) s;)

How about the heat shield that is visible through the rear grill?

Mine is flaking and I'd like to repaint it.  Am I going to have to remove the whole rear bumper to do this?

yes you are Steve, follow the guide i wrote in the articles section on how to remove the bumper, takes 10-15mins to remove the rear bumper, its an easy job in reality, but do put a little penetrating oil on the plastic fasteners underneath before attempting this

Thanks, Stu.  That's what I was afraid of.  Guess I'll do it when I do the install of the LT antenna.  Can't do anything in this weather!  s:( :( s:(

I do have some manifold heat shields.  But the Cat heat shields are usually thrown away.  They always rust through!
