Quote from: "Meeerrrk"That looks really smart! Thanks for sharing.

I have bent the alu sheet, I think I'm happy with how it looks. Been planning on placement of all the items I want on there.

I could cover my alu in the carbon effect wrap, is that just the heat shrink stuff? Easy to use? Looks quite nice like that, I didn't know how to finish mine.

Good to hear you're happy with the alu sheet  s:) :) s:)

The vinyl is the 3M stuff - the link is above.

Its from Performance Protection - It's effectively just the rear half of the cage they sell for the mr2 championship race cars

It's 6 of one....

The hard dog allows you to retain the soft top catch, there is no welding to fit it. But, you need to remove the fuel tank to fit it and the cost is crazy with shipping from the USA.

This one requires the feet to be welded in, which is easy a diy job (see Tim3 2zz thread) but you can't retain the soft top catch ( not as it is anyway, probably is possible). However, it is about half the price of the hard dog.

Quote from: "MrStev3"How much did it set you back?

The polycarbonate was £10.25:

and the vinyl was £9.99:

I have enough left over to make another one if I need to as well.

Going to order some of that 3m stuff, thanks

I've been waiting a while, but finally got my gauge today. Oil pressure on the analogue gauges, oil temp, water temp and volts (not that useful) on the digital side.

Also ended up buying a sandwich plate for temp and pressure and still need to buy a water temp adaptor. I think I need a 32mm one, but not certain on that yet.

Still need to finish building the centre console which will house the gauge. Bent the aluminium, but need a few more things before I start cutting holes in it

looking good meeerrrk mate i do like depo gauges, im to not sure about what size housing you need for the water sender or even what pipe to put it in yet, but going to be doing all this soon too in the next weekend or so, so be interested to see where you fit it,

It's not going to be very exciting I'm afraid!

Digital dash would be cool but I think there are a million and one things on the car to spend money on first  s:) :) s:)

Started messing about with the gauge and sensors , pressure and temp sensors in the sandwich plate.

Next attention turned to powering the gauge. Because I don't have a radio anymore I took power from the radio harness. So I got a radio harness adaptor, took out the excess wires and left myself with power, switched power, Earth and illumination.

Plugged it in to try; I opted for white in day time and red at night time (switched with the illumination feed)

Need to drop the filter and fit the sandwich plate next  s:) :) s:)

Not much progress but time is my biggest problem at the moment

Cheers Tommy, as I was saying, that white connector plugs into the car loom where the radio was and you then have power etc for your gauges!

cheers mate think im getting there, so i know now that black is (ground) yellow (12v positive) and red (switched with ignition 12v positive) , what does the orange do? blimey sounds like i know what im talking about  s:) :) s:)

The orange is illumination, so gives 12v when you turn your lights on. When you have a radio plugged in, that makes it change brightness at night.

I'm using it because my gauge has colour options for day / night but you won't need that.

If you get the cable I linked to, the wires actually have their job printed on them!

Managed to get the centre console finished off tonight.

Made a template (or 4!) to try different items in different positions, ended up picking this layout

So drew it up on the aluminium and drilled the holes. From the template I realised I needed the gauge angled toward the driver so also turned the hood into an angle ring.

I then wrapped it using the 3m stuff as suggested by Miles (thanks!) and mounted the bits and pieces on...

Still need to fit the gauge sensors, move the batter and install the new battery wiring before I can fit it...but it's one step closer  s:) :) s:)

I'll put it in the car tomorrow and take a picture of it in place

I think it looks great.
Well done.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Thanks chaps I'll get some pics in the car, just need to properly attach the battery isolator.

Looks good, I like that  s:) :) s:)

I assume you are not planning to run an external cut off pull on the isolator switch as the cable routing would likely end up looking very untidy and block other switches if you needed to run a cable from the switch to a pull on the outside of the car.

Thanks. The 3m stuff worked out well  s:) :) s:)

I might do in the future, I have purposely positioned the switch where I could fit a bracket for the pull cord if required, a bit like what Tim has done on his one. Maybe, in the future!

Nice one, you've obviously thought about it and have a solution  s:) :) s:)

I did take a while to work out the best layout. Even so the Alu sheet was about £5 and who doesn't love a bit of metal bashing  s:) :) s:)

Not much going on with my car at the moment, all my pennies going toward holiday. But I've got a few bits gathered up ready for a bit of work;

- Front ARB clamps to fit the new bushes
- Rear discs (dimpled and grooved)
- Rear yellow stuff pads
- Black calliper paint for rears
- My centre console (as above)
- Oil sandwich plate for sensors
- Water temp adapter for sensor
- New smaller, lighter "Powervamp" battery to mount in the Frunk
- The roll hoop as pictured earlier (will need help welding in feet)

- Waiting for delivery of Wilwood front brake kit

Still to buy/do
- Battery cable for relocation
- Paint drivers side seat mounts
- Geo / Alignment after suspension fitting.

Finally, I've started to gather parts for the long awaited 2zz conversion. Peppy's engine for sale made me think about it and although not ready at the moment, it won't hurt to get all the parts together ready for when I'm ready.

I don't think I'll be out on track till August time to be honest  s:( :( s:(  but the car will be mega by then and completely different to how it was last year!  s:D :D s:D
